Gambling and Tax Liabilities

3 April 2001
If you're just getting around to putting together your 2000 state and federal income tax information in preparation for filing your returns, you may have come across the receipt you received from the slot attendant for winning that $1,600 jackpot on a Double Diamond slot machine way back in January of last year...read more

The King Scobe Graduate Degree in Casino Gambling

2 April 2001
When you walk into a casino, it is important that you know your stuff. Like a surgeon about to operate, like a President about to argue what the meaning of "is" is, and like a boy or girl scout getting ready to set fire to the woods by rubbing two sticks together, a casino gambler must be prepared for the games he or she is about to play...read more

The 100 Most Significant Events of the 20th Century in Casino Gambling (76 to 80)

31 March 2001
What is the leisure time activity that more adult Americans participate in than any other? Going to movies? No. Playing softball? No. Golf? No. Bowling? Come on! Tennis? Oh, my aching elbow! Stamp collecting? No. Coin collecting? You're getting colder...read more

Hot Slots Are Melting Tahoe Snow

30 March 2001
Spring has arrived in Tahoe, bringing with it a plentitude of changes in the local casinos. New slots are springing up like April flowers. Caesars Tahoe has the neon yellow Nissan Frontier 4 x 4 pickup truck, laden with prizes ranging from bicycles on top to a big screen tv in the back and the red Mustang convertible gracing their casino floor, both will be given away in June.....read more

Ask The Slot Expert

29 March 2001
Dear John, On my last stay in Vegas, my wife and I started getting into the video poker play. I looked for 9/6 Jacks or Better. Unfortunately the best I found was 8/5. It was fun, but I definitely would like to hone in on some basic strategies to improve my odds...read more

Double Double Bonus Poker

28 March 2001
While in Las Vegas recently, I found myself playing 10-7-5 Double Bonus Poker on a quarter Triple Play machine. That's quite a treat for a Midwestern player. When full houses pay 10-for-1, flushes 7-for-1 and straights 5-for-1 -- the 10-7-5 before the name -- Double Bonus returns 100.17 percent in the long run with expert play...read more

27 March 2001
Dear Frank, This is an update on my use of the Supersystem, and I also have a few questions. We (the beautiful P.D. and I) were in Las Vegas for five days staying at Paris in a strip-view room for $49 per night--a tremendous value. Aside from a few hands of blackjack--I noticed a great increase in the number of continuous-shuffle machines in operation--all of my playing time was at the craps tables employing the Supersystem with $5 doey-don't bets and going up with 3, 4, and 5 times odds, which now seem to be the norm on the strip...read more

Become a Winner at Blackjack

26 March 2001
If you're like most people, you're probably behind for your lifetime at blackjack. "Isn't everybody?" you ask. No -- not everybody. Technically speaking, the house doesn't beat you at blackjack. You beat yourself with the playing and betting decisions you make...read more
