Gambling Theories, History, and Other Lies7 January 2003
The philosopher, George Santayana (1863-1952), is often quoted as having
said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." A
counterpart may pertain to gambling. Something like "Those who cannot

said, "History is a pack of lies about events that never happened told
by people who weren't there." An even better nominee for a gambling
analogy! Make one up yourself.

Dear Scobe and AP:
This may sound stupid but can you control the outcome of gambling
games by using the powers of your mind? For example, I received a

roulette wheel spins and slot machine results...read moreWhat Casinos Can't Predict about Jackpots, and What They Can2 January 2003 Nobody can predict when a slot machine will knock out a jackpot. Within

Sometimes you just get a bad feeling about someone.
When you are working in a casino, it might be a player making bizarre
bets, like hitting on 19, and winning; or a guy who looks like he is
aching for a fight; or a small group, hanging around the slot machines,
blocking the security cameras.

The tribes looking for opportunity for economic development have often pushed
the legal envelope. Even when the progress of Indian gaming has been slow and

resistance. In California, Connecticut, Idaho and Maine, there are organized
movements to stop or limit tribal gaming.
