How do they set the long-term payback on video keno?

28 September 2009
Hi, I have been struggling with this question for a number of years and nobody seems to be able to answer it. My question is on video keno, and the supposed random number generator they claim to have in there. If it was truly random how can the machine be set for different odds, IE: 86%-92%...read more

Beware of Table Game Traps

27 September 2009
It's been a dark and stormy session at the 21 table. OK, maybe it's only been dim with occasional showers, but whatever the metaphorical weather has been the fact is you're pushing the last of your chips into the betting circle, downing the last of your beverage, and preparing to quit the field for a while...read more

Harrah's Joliet Stays Course During Down Year

23 September 2009
It has been a tough year for Illinois casinos, but that hasn't stopped Harrah's Joliet from doing everything it can to weather the economic storm. The property's efforts to remain on the cutting edge are very much in evidence with a five-month remodeling project which was completed earlier this summer and continual upgrades to the slot machine product. According to Philippe Khouri, vice president of operations at Harrah's Joliet, an extensive restructuring of the layout of the casino floor was necessary to improve the sight lines and eliminate the overhead clutter created by signage on slot machine denomination "toppers". "We wanted people to have easy access to our Smoker's Club, Ace's Diner, the high limit room, and the main cashier," he said...read more

How could tickets be matched with their owners?

21 September 2009
In your September 14 column you discuss "finders keepers" in regard to finding money or TITO slips in casinos. You made this statement: "Unlike coins, today's tickets could conceivably be matched with their true owners." Could you expound on this? Is there information on that slip (hidden in the bar code) that indicates who it belongs to, or would it just be a situation where the person who left it behind could identify the amount, the machine, the time of day, etc...read more

Jest for Fun

20 September 2009
You don't have to go to a casino to see people making a bundle. Just watch a farmer with a hay-bailing machine. * * * * * A slot host is someone who is passionate for the cash in it. * * * * * If you really want to be healthy, wealthy, and wise, never ask a heavy loser how he's doing. * * * * * The push button on the slot is easy on the brain but hell on the wallet. * * * * * I finished a meal in one of those swanky European-themed casino restaurants on the Las Vegas Strip...read more
