What happened to my loose slot?

7 March 2010

Hi Frank,

I hear from people who play the slots that there are the hot and cold type machines. Many years ago at the Delaware Racetrack and Slots, my wife and I would visit frequently as I played the horses and she played the slots. This one time we both played these two machines. From 3:00 to 10:30 we played these two machines, winning over $1,000+. The three sevens pattern kept winning on both machines.

The only time we left the machines was when Mother Nature called. I would cover hers and she would cover mine. Hunger pangs finally made us stop. Another time this happened in Foxwoods at one machine my wife played for several hours making several hundred dollars as I was playing roulette.

The essence of this story is when we went back the following week at different intervals to play these machines. They were gone. No longer to be found.

My question is: Since the casinos have all this electronic equipment, do they know what these machines have done and have to be removed or altered to favor the casinos? Or do they have it set up to alter the machine at the time of play or adjust at end of play or if they see a certain strategy being used by the player?

I play the roulette slots at the Mohegan Sun in Wilkes-Barre as they don't have the roulette live tables yet. I go twice a week and have won a lot of dough. These past two weeks I see there is a different pattern sequence developing, making it harder to win. I usually use one strategy now I have to alternate between two strategies.

The other question is: Do you think by using different strategies, that this would throw off their set patterns so they would not recognize it's the same person playing or winning? I would not want them to fix their four machines where it is impossible to win as I don't play the other slots.

I see no problem on the live tables but the roulette slots have me wondering.

Regards with good health and wealth for the New Year to you, Frank.

Bona Fortuna,
Jaggy

Hi Jaggy:

Any slot can get hot and any slot can get cold. There are slots that have a high hit frequency, giving out more small wins and fewer big wins, and other slots that have a low hit frequency, giving out more big wins and fewer small wins. But a player winning or losing? All based on random luck.

Machines are moved around in casinos — for a variety of reasons. I doubt these machines were moved because they were paying more than they should over any lengthy period of time.

There are no strategies that can beat a random game. You'll win some money and lose a little more over time. You just can't get out of that.

Happy New Year!

Frank
