Many of them enjoyed brief flings in casinos before disappearing, others are popular in select jurisdictions but never gained widespread appeal.
Some, however, have stood the test of time, including Lucky Ladies, 21 + 3, Royal Match, and another option called Perfect Pairs.
Every one of them is unique in its own way, but they all have one thing in common, and that is to provide a means for casino operators to extract extra revenue from blackjack tables.
Perfect Pairs was recently introduced at Empress Joliet in Illinois, which along with its Penn National Gaming owned sister property, Hollywood Casino Aurora, are the only casinos in the Chicago area to offer the bet.
The simplicity of the wager makes it an attractive proposition even for beginners...read moreOne of those days at the casino3 November 2009 My friend Jack had just had one of those days at the casino, and he phoned me to vent.
"You know those days when nothing goes right? This wasn't quite one of those," he said.
I asked if that meant he didn't lose his bankroll for the day.
"No," he said, "but not for lack of trying...read moreAnother lost money story2 November 2009
A year or so ago my friend put a $100 bill into a cash machine in the casino. Thinking she had asked simply for a $100 ticket she grabbed the ticket when it popped out and hurried to grab the seat at her favorite machine because it was then empty...read moreWeak Three-Card Straight Flushes in 9/6 Jacks1 November 2009 Let me begin by saying what I mean by a weak three-card straight flush. By this I mean any three-card straight flush that has one high card and is double inside or has no high cards and is single inside. A very weak three-card straight flush is one that is double inside and has no high cards...read more![]() Slot Machine Malfunctions31 October 2009 When you play a slot machine or video game, you enter into a contract with the casino. The payout table (or "glass") on top of the machine spells out the coin payout for various symbol combinations. An important element of the contract is the message on the glass saying that a "Malfunction voids all pays and plays." Or something to that effect.
After a big jackpot hit, slot personnel routinely open up the slot to be sure it hasn't been tampered with and that the slot's computer program is working properly...read moreAvoid misplaying these blackjack hands30 October 2009 After 34 years of playing blackjack, I can truly say, "I have seen it all." For example, last month I watched in horror as a player started to double down on a 10-4 (14). The other players (myself included) thought the player didn't understand what he was holding so we tried to explain that doubling down on a hand that could bust with one draw card was not a smart play...read more![]() Brunson's latest a revealing autobiography; 'Gold Sheet' logs easy reference29 October 2009 Good poker biographies are rare, great ones even rarer. Dear Mr. Scobolete:
I have read each and every one of your books and I enjoyed them each one. You are one fined writer if I do say so myself. But I have one thing I don't like and that is your insistence that math is the most important thing in casino gambling when even a fool knows that short term luck is what makes you a winner...read more |
