Exciting new craps strategies

31 December 2009
I am so sick and so tired of some of my readers writing to me to inform me that my normal betting recommendations are "boring," "unexciting," "typical," "uncreative," "stupid," "dumb," "idiotic," "conventional," "asinine," "unimaginative," "pathetic," "dull," "redundant," "derivative," and, this one I love, "not for players looking to have as much fun as God intended us to have at a craps table." OK, my normal recommendations are quite simple, I'll agree...read more

How Far Can Casinos Push the Envelope?

30 December 2009
How low can casinos go? It is almost as if some operators are looking to see how far they can go before players revolt over giving the house an even fatter edge than it already enjoys. If the tables remain full and the slot seats occupied, the casinos push it a little further and try something new to see how gamblers will respond. For example, changing the rules and adding side bets with bloated house advantages are traditional ways casinos boost the revenue-generating power of table games. Now, with gaming revenue in Nevada in steady decline for nearly two years, some properties have resorted to establishing an even more disturbing trend. Instead of just changing the rules, they are lowering the payouts. Casinos in Las Vegas have targeted blackjack, the most popular table game, as a means to fatten up their bottom lines by paying 6-5 for a natural 21 at multi-deck tables instead of the standard 3-2. Deflated 6-5 blackjack is nothing new for Vegas...read more

Report from G2E 2009, part 3

29 December 2009
As long as there has been double-zero roulette, the math has been the same. Whether you're betting on single numbers, the 18-number red or black combinations or anything in between, the house has a 5.26% edge. The single exception is the five-number bet on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3, where the house edge soars to 7.89%. So I was intrigued when I walked up to the Casino Gaming LLC booth at the Global Gaming Expo at the Las Vegas Convention Center...read more

More on finding slot tickets

28 December 2009
Can you trust the casino employees to not try to use it [a found slot ticket] for themselves? Absolutely. Casino employees will lose their jobs if they're caught redeeming a found slot ticket. Best of luck in and out of the casinos, John Send your slot and video poker questions to John Robison, Slot Expert, at slotexpert@comcast.net...read more

Jest for Fun

26 December 2009
Here's a toast to all the change persons who work in casinos. The people who really know what you go through. * * * * * A big problem in the casino restaurants is tipping. Tipping is like prunes. You have to ask yourself, "Is one enough? Is five too many?" * * * * * A man returned from a weekend in Lake Tahoe...read more

Blackjack and comps

25 December 2009
Blackjack is not only a smart casino game to play if you want to reduce the odds against you or even gain the edge over the house, but it's also a smart casino game to play if you want to take full advantage of comps. Last year, collectively the casinos in America gave away one billion dollars in comps to players...read more

Less than 100 days to go before they yell, "Play ball!" and the 2010 season begins, and already handicappers are asking for baseball books. We're not surprised. This is not unusual because baseball bettors are a special breed unto themselves...read more

Gaffed dice: Real or imagined?

24 December 2009
A player known as The Craps Devil on my private website at www.goldentouchcraps.com posted an interesting question about the dice used in the casinos: Without a weighing thing to weigh them then why not use dice that seven out more than other dice? The casinos won't get caught doing this would they? So why not do it? They could make a fortune on the suckers at the craps tables...read more

IGT Banking Heavily on "Sex and the City" Slots

23 December 2009
There's good news for "Sex and the City" fans with an itch to gamble: Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, Charlotte, and of course, Mr. Big, will soon be appearing on a new video slot that captures the essence of the TV series. International Game Technology partnered with HBO to create what it hopes will be a huge casino hit, not only among Sex and the City devotees but also among slot players who are always looking for new technologies that take their gambling experience to the next level. For openers, the eye-catching multi-level progressive is the first IGT product to incorporate the company's patented MultiPlay format into a MegaJackpots game. MultiPlay gives people the opportunity to play up to four games simultaneously on the same screen, a feature which comes with a price: Each game has 30 pay lines plus a 20-credit side wager...read more
