Top 10 casino openings and expansions for June 2023

Here in the U.S., the official start of summer is just 16 days away, and with it comes a wave of casino openings and expansions from California to New Hampshire, and many in between. From new casino ribbon cuttings to new dining, and entertainment options to expanded gaming space, there's something for everyone at these new and improved gaming properties.

Here, we take a look at 10 openings and expansions since our last edition in the beginning of April.

10. Potawatomi Casino and Hotel debuts new dining experience
Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in Milwaukee debuted a new dining experience, The Potawatomi Marketplace.

The Potawatomi Marketplace is now open off the first-floor gaming area and will offer a variety of quick-service dining options, grab-and-go snacks, and more.

Burger Co., Project Pizza Co., Mini and Wow are also open for business. Small Bar, Gilded Cleaver, Queen of Ramen, and Taco Spot are also slated to open inside of the Potawatomi Marketplace over the coming months.

9. Eagle Mountain Casino opens in California
A little less than month ago, Eagle Mountain Casino began a new chapter as it held a ribbon cutting and press conference to celebrate the opening of its new property, located next to the Porterville Fairgrounds in Porterville, about three hours north of Los Angeles.

The full-service casino is open 24/7 and spans over 100,000 square feet, featuring dining options, 1,750 slot machines, 20 table games, and a 2,000-seat state-of-the-art event center.

When the new property opened on 9 May, it was the first time Eagle Mountain Casino served alcohol.

Eagle Mountain Casino’s story began in June of 1996 when the casino opened its doors with a few mobile trailers, a hotdog and hamburger stand, three blackjack tables, and just over 300 video lottery terminals.

8. New Hampshire casino celebrates the opening of Lucky’s Restaurant
The Brook, America’s largest charity casino located minutes from the New Hampshire-Massachusetts border, added another new amenity with the opening of Lucky’s.

Opening daily at 8 a.m. and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Lucky’s, named after a local gambling legend, is a classic American restaurant offering breakfast all day with a centerpiece bar.

In addition to serving select breakfast items all day as well as gluten-free menu options, guests can also take advantage of Lucky’s early bird specials, served seven days a week from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The full meals are $24.99 per person, rotating daily with options like Coconut Shrimp, full Italian Supper and Sunday Roast, and include a soup or salad and a glass of house wine or a draft beer.

7. Play Playground opening this fall at Luxor Casino in Las Vegas
Play Social is scheduled to open its first Play Playground location this fall as a 13,000 square-foot immersive playground at Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The gamified experience will include 20 immersive games and attractions. Play will feature two bars, VIP mezzanines, and private event spaces that can be customized for corporate buyouts, special events, birthday parties, bachelorette or bachelor parties, and conventioneers.

6. Bally’s Twin River Lincoln opens new gaming area
At the end of April, Bally's Twin River Lincoln in Rhode Island officially opened 40,000 square feet of new gaming space in an expansion of its casino floor.

The new gaming area includes 355 slot machines, 57 table games, 27 stadium-style games, and a high-limit gaming area.

Also, adjacent to the new 16-seat casino bar is Plume & Proof, a cigar lounge with access to an outdoor smoking patio.

5. Cordish Companies show plans for new Live! Casino and Hotel Louisiana
In the middle of April, the decision was made to redevelop Diamond Jacks Casino & Hotel in Bossier City. Cordish intends to transform the property into a Live! casino resort and entertainment destination.

This includes the construction of an entirely new, first-class land-based Live! casino and the removal of the existing casino riverboat. Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana is scheduled to open in 2025.

Over $250 million will be invested into the project that will feature the following:

More than 47,000-square-feet of gaming space including 1,000+ slots and electronic table games and 30+ live action table games
An upscale 400+ room resort-style hotel
A 25,000-square-foot, multi-purpose event center for entertainment, meeting, conventions, non-profit and social gatherings
Structured and surface parking
30,000-square-feet of dining and entertainment venues including 6+ new food and beverage outlets featuring nationally acclaimed concepts Sports & Social and PBR Cowboy Bar

4. The STRAT to unveil elevated pool experience
The STRAT Hotel, Casino and SkyPod, which sits on the far north end of the Las Vegas Strip, revealed a new destination to sip, swim and socialize. Swim & Social, a resort-style pool and play experience, spans 68,000 square feet on the eighth story rooftop with views of the Las Vegas Strip.

The new venue opened just in time for Memorial Day Weekend with the centerpiece being a large main pool framed by luxurious cabanas, daybeds and chaise lounges. Games like cornhole, giant Jenga and Connect Four welcome friendly competition and poolside socializing.

Swim & Social Café, a full-service restaurant and bar, will offer a cool retreat for breakfast and lunch with small plates, salads, sandwiches and more, in addition to frozen and signature cocktails, wine, beer, seltzer and non-alcoholic drinks.

3. Tachi Palace Casino & Resort unveils new renovations
Just last week, Tachi Palace Casino & Resort in California unveiled a fully renovated and refreshed property at a ribbon cutting event.

Updates to the casino-resort property include two new bars, a redesigned table games pit area, and an expanded overall footprint.

“Tachi Palace is excited to unveil our new look, with no corner of the casino left untouched,” said Michael Olujic, General Manager of Tachi Palace Casino Resort. “The updates made throughout the property enhance the luxury of our ultimate four-star getaway destination.”

2. New hotel expansion to hit Jamul Casino in California
Jamul Casino’s 16-story boutique hotel will offer 200 rooms, including 52 suites, and be accompanied by a six-story parking structure with 350 parking spaces.

The California hotel lobby will be home to an approximately 4,800-square-foot restaurant with views of the surrounding area.

The hotel will also offer retail space, meeting and banquet facilities, a full-service spa and salon with an outdoor deck, a fitness center, luxury guest rooms and suites for VIP guests, and an 11,000-square-foot rooftop pool deck including a jetted hot tub, cabanas, and a rooftop bar.

The hotel is currently under construction and there is no completion date as of now.

1. Caesars introduces plans to enhance Paris Las Vegas
Caesars Entertainment will renovate the Jubilee Tower at Horseshoe Las Vegas and integrate it into Paris Las Vegas with a new name, Versailles Tower.

An investment exceeding $100 million, the Versailles Tower will feature a new exterior and interior. The renovation will introduce 756 redesigned luxury guestrooms and a pedestrian bridge connecting the Versailles Tower to the existing Paris resort.

The Versailles Tower will feature some of the largest standard rooms on The Strip, starting at 436 square feet. In addition, select guestrooms will offer new 55-square-foot balconies with views of The Strip as part of the renovation. The enhanced rooms in the Versailles Tower at Paris Las Vegas are slated for completion in late 2023 with the pedestrian bridge to follow in early 2024.
