Top 10 things to do in Las Vegas this summer

It’s understandable to be hesitant about going to Las Vegas in the summer because of the intense heat. However, not only is it cheaper to plan your trip during those sweltering months, but there are plenty of ways to stay cool and beat the Las Vegas heat. Here are 10 prime examples: 10. Dive-in movies at The Cosmo If you are looking for a place to relax, grab a drink and catch a movie, then head to a "dive-in" movie at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. They take place every Monday night at the resort that sits in the heart of the Strip, starting on Memorial Day and ending on Labor Day. Admission is free for guests staying at The Cosmo and for children under the age of five. Even if you are not staying at the hotel, you can go to the dive-in movie for $5. The movies begin at 8 p.m., and doors open for guests to arrive an hour beforehand. It’s a great way to unwind, having a drink and some snacks poolside while enjoying a classic movie. There's even a Star Wars double feature on 9 July, starting at 6 p.m. 9. Minus 5° IceBar You wouldn’t expect to need a parka and gloves at any point while visiting Las Vegas during the summer. However, at Minus 5° IceBar, you'll be glad they give them to you at the door. There are two locations for this bar in Vegas: Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and The Venetian Las Vegas. Both include a full bar, along with TVs and games such as ping pong, billiards and foosball. It opens at 11 a.m., so if there is a day where the sun and heat are just too much to handle and you need a change of pace, hit up the Minus 5° IceBar and forget that it’s probably 95° outside. 8. Topgolf Las Vegas Want to have a nice view while staying out of the scorching weather? Try going to the flagship venue for Topgolf, which is located behind the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino Las Vegas. This place really does have it all. Start out by working on your golf game, since it has over 100 climate-controlled hitting bays, all with a perfect view of the iconic Las Vegas Strip. If you work up a sweat, there are two pools at the venue, as well. There are five bars and a concert venue that can hold up to 900 people. The hours at Topgolf cover nearly any time you would want to golf, swim or have a drink at the bar. It's open from 9 a.m. – 2 a.m. each day. Topgolf is also offering a special deal this summer. Mimosa Summer Sundays will be around from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. every Sunday with $5 mimosas and bloody marys. 7. NBA Summer League Even though the Vegas Golden Knights’ season is coming to a thrilling end, that doesn’t mean sports in Las Vegas becomes nonexistent. This will be the first year that all 30 NBA teams will take part in the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, held 6-17 July at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion at the University of Nevada. It’s always a good time to see the future of the NBA competing against one another. You can see the top picks in the NBA draft along with undrafted players fighting for a roster spot. Tickets start at less than $50 and typically allow for you to catch a set of two or three games, since starting times are staggered. 6. World Series of Poker You don’t have to do all of the gambling while you’re in Las Vegas: You can also watch professionals at the 2018 World Series of Poker. The schedule lists 105 events taking place from 29 May until 17 July at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, including 78 gold bracelet events over the month and a half period. 5. Las Vegas 51s baseball game It may be outdoors, but this is the final summer to be able to catch a Las Vegas 51s game at Cashman Field. Actually, not only will it be the last chance to see them play at Cashman Field, but to be able to say you saw the 51s play. In 2019, the team will be moving into the new Las Vegas Ballpark, and will be rebranding with a new name and major league affiliation. So, this may not be to beat the heat, but it is an experience to take part in before you are no longer able to. 4. Two major UFC events There is a pair of UFC fight nights taking place this summer at two locations in Vegas. First, you have “The Ultimate Fighter Finale" on 6 July at Pearl Theatre. The five-round main event that night will be between Brad Tavares and Israel Adesanya, who is undefeated and from Nigeria. You’ll either be witnessing Adesanya continuing his unbeaten streak or Tavares bring Adesanya’s perfect 13-0-0 record to a close. On 7 July at T-Mobile Arena, UFC 226 will take place with some well-known names, and none more important than Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier, who will battle it out for the heavyweight title. This fight has been anticipated for a long time, and you do not want to miss out on a chance to see this live. 3. Arctic Ice Room inside Caesars Palace You can have Christmas in July at Caesars Palace, sort of. At the Qua Baths & Spa inside Caesars, you can use the Arctic Ice Room, where snowflakes will fall down on you as you sit in the sub-60° room. It is a room filled with mint-infused air where you can sit on the heated benches and floor. The Arctic Ice Room also includes a shaved-ice fountain and a faux-star-studded sky. Easily one of the better ways to cool off in Vegas. 2. Life is Beautiful in downtown Las Vegas End your summer with a big weekend in Downtown Las Vegas experiencing Life is Beautiful. The event takes place from 21-23 September and is spread across 18 blocks in Downtown Vegas. Last year, there were over 100 performances, including 78 musical acts. Tickets are already on sale and you can start your end of summer weekend with The Weekend that Friday night. 1. Hit the pool The most obvious way to stay cool in the Las Vegas heat is to find one of the many extravagant pools Vegas has to offer. There are too many pools that are worth highlighting in Vegas, but here are a few worth considering. Influence, the pool at The LINQ Hotel & Casino is a place to enjoy while you are in Vegas. There are two outdoor pools that include 10 cabanas with their own waitresses. Each cabana includes a plasma TV along with built-in speakers, a refrigerator and more. It is important to know that you must be at least 21 to go to the pool deck at The LINQ. There is a wave pool, lazy river and poolside casino at Mandalay Bay Beach. This is a perfect example of how to beat the heat and do it right. You can hang by the pool or stay in just one of over 100 cabanas where you can order food and drinks. The Tank at the Golden Nugget - Las Vegas is a pool experience you won’t soon forget. You can relax in the pool or play poolside blackjack, but if you want a little extra rush, then go down the waterslide. You may be caught a little off-guard when the slide goes through the 200,000-gallon tank filled with sharks.
