Heard it on the River

9 July 2004
Funny thing about timing. I pursue Horseshoe Boss JACK BINION for an exclusive interview for over a year and return from a respite on the RED RIVER in Arkansas to find out that what I had predicted earlier in this column, that HARRAH'S ENTERTAINMENT would complete its acquisition of HORSESHOE GAMING on or about July 1, had taken place...read more

Do Make the Don't One Step at a Time

9 July 2004
The enemy of a "Don't" or Darkside player in craps is the shooter who gets hot. A shooter hitting point after point, number after number, can drown a Darkside player in a sea of red ink and sunken boatloads of lost bets that will take endless hours to recoup...read more

Video Poker Software

8 July 2004
Hi, John! I have noticed that when playing certain slot machines, if I vary the time between activating the reels, I seem to win a lot more. Is it possible to get into a time sequence or routine that effects the RNG? Thanks, Dave Dear Dave, It is not possible to fool the RNG by varying the time between spins. If you did a study of a sufficient number of spins in which you played a steady pace in one group and varied your pace in another, you'd find that your results are the same in both cases. Best of luck in and out of the casinos, John Hi, John, Could you tell me what ever happened to the slot machine named Silver Bullett? I have been to Vegas and Atlantic City and some casinos in the South and I have not seen them...read more

7 July 2004
The "Who Wants to be a Binionaire" dollar slot progressive at Jack Binion's Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind., has been red hot. During a recent four-week period the jackpot was hit four times, all by women players from Illinois, for a total payout of $611,163. As American as Apple Pie

6 July 2004
Could there be a better time than July 4th to continue to argue for Video Poker to become America's National Game of Chance? I think the first step in making this happen is to get people to stop thinking of Video Poker as a variety of a slot machine...read more

Hold 'Em Poker Books

6 July 2004
Until recently, live poker in casinos has been in steep decline. Many Nevada card rooms have closed, and most casinos in newer gaming jurisdictions never added poker because space is more profitably used on slot machines. But thanks to televised poker on the Travel Channel and ESPN, poker - especially Texas hold'em - is on a popularity surge...read more
