Chicago Area's Richest Slot Progressive Is Hot7 July 2004
The "Who Wants to be a Binionaire" dollar slot progressive at Jack Binion's Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind., has been red hot. During a recent four-week period the jackpot was hit four times, all by women players from Illinois, for a total payout of $611,163. Georgetta Estep of Romeoville started the streak on May 4 when, after playing for only a few minutes, lined up the jackpot symbols for a $156,222 jackpot. Less than two weeks later, on May 19, Brenda Timmons-Holden of Harvey hit the jackpot, this time for $152,217. The winner said she plans to buy her mother a home with the money. Another "Binionaire" was made less than 24 hours later. A Chicago resident who did not wish to disclose her name hit a $150,042 jackpot on May 20. Finally, Joan Washington of Oak Lawn had been playing her machine for about 45 minutes when she lined up the jackpot symbols to the tune of $152,682 on June 4. The Horseshoe reseeds the progressive jackpot with $150,000 every time it's hit, which makes it higher than any other in-house progressive bank in the Midwest. It's a 3-coin, 3-reel machine that requires the maximum bet ($3.00) for players to be eligible to win the progressive jackpot. In addition to the dollar progressive, the Horseshoe has a fifty-cent 3-coin, 3-reel bank of Binionaire machines. That pot starts out at $75,000.
