A shuffle through the gaming mailbag7 April 2009 Q. I have a question about strategy that you didn't answer in your Deuces Wild columns. If I'm dealt four parts of a flush and four parts of a straight in the same hand, is it always better to go for the flush? With 4 of clubs, along with 5, 6, 7 and 10 of hearts, should I automatically hold the four hearts, or go with 4-5-6-7?

John,
I just got back from Harrah's Tunica. My wife and I have both been diamond players at Harrah's properties for at least 5 years. We both play video poker mixed in with some slots and I also play Texas Hold'em.
I was playing a $1 full-pay Jacks or Better machine and hit a royal flush...read moreDo other shooters resent your setting the dice?5 April 2009
Frank:
Have you ever had trouble from other shooters at the table who don't try to control the dice, and resent you setting the dice prior to the throw?
Thanks,
Larry

Hello,
I desperately need your opinion on this situation.
First of all go to the website [Soaring Eagle casino in Michigan] and click on the winners tab and look for "Randy P" select each month to see the winners and you will notice that he wins on average $100,000.00 dollars or more a month!!!!!
So my question is "how is this possible"? Yes, he plays high-stakes slots usually $10 slots and $25 slots and his wife "Angie P" also wins a bunch!!
I have read that slots are a terrible gamble and will take all your money and for me I never win anything hardly at all and the same with all my friends who play $1, $5, and $10 dollar slots but "Randy P" and "Angie P" always WIN!! How can someone win $100.000.00 a month on slots!!!! when they are designed to take your money and how does the casino allow this..?? There are some technical issues that mathematicians love to squabble about, that is, how should one handle ties and should the figure be based on the ante or the actual amount wagered...read moreEveryone has a system2 April 2009 In a sense, I am a casino gambling systems seller. Now, if you are going to quote that first sentence please make sure you use "in a sense" or the whole point of this column will be the opposite of what I intend it to be.

This is especially true for casino games because of the fact your hard-earned money is at stake.
Here are a few pointers for beginners and casual casino-goers to keep in mind the next time they tackle the slots or give the roulette wheel a spin.

The red-black bet in roulette pays 1-1, even though the true odds are 20-18 against the player. The pass line bet in craps pays 1-1, but true odds are 50.7-49.3.
I've mentioned that before, and it was on the mind of a reader named Marcus when he phoned to ask a question.

Dear John,
Love your columns.
Is it me or does it seem that the casinos are tightening up their machines in this economy?
I am a medium roller and have had zero luck recently (past 7 or 8 months or so) in my weekly casino visits (which have now become bi-weekly and even monthly) and get an eerie feeling that the casinos have programmed their machines not to pay out as prodigiously as in years past due to the state of the present economy...read moreCan you be successful in craps without being a controlled shooter?29 March 2009
Dear Frank:
