The "slot spin principle" is brilliant21 June 2009
Dear Frank:
I just read your article on the "Slot Spin Principle." It is brilliant.
However, I THINK you made a mistake. The slot player MUST spin the die in front of the slot machine being played, preferably within 18 inches of the reel window...read moreBlackjack card counting 101 - part 119 June 2009 Do you remember the blackjack scene from the movie Rain Man? You know that's where autistic Dustin Hoffman is card counting at the blackjack tables at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and telling his selfish brother (Tom Cruise) how to play and how much to bet...read moreWhy don't they listen?18 June 2009 I have many good friends who are gambling writers and they are fun, intelligent and humble people — after all they are, when all is said and done, merely writing about games that people play. They aren't discovering cures for cancer or ways to get into outer space...read moreSide Bets Are a Side Show That Won't Go Away17 June 2009 The one table game that has the most side bets associated with it is blackjack. It seems as if inventors and gaming companies are always coming up with new, gimmicky ideas about how to relieve players of their money.
The reason for this is simple...read moreThoughts on the record craps roll16 June 2009 Every once in a while something happens in gambling that is unusual enough to capture the public imagination and grab mass public attention.

Hi Frank,
You are a straight shooter. Question: If you had say four or five hundred in free table play, how would you max that out? Would you just play safe and go red and black, covering the 00 and 0, or pass, don't pass covering the 12 and settle for half?
Or would you play the 6 and 8 and just let them ride until they hit?
Other ways are blackjack - (iffy) -
Would I be stupid to just let the don't pass bet ride? The problem seems to be that you cannot take them down when you want to...read moreAre VLTs Class II slot machines?13 June 2009
Like everyone else, I immensely enjoy your columns on slots (that's all I play) and the recent ones on classes of machines were of particular interest. Have played both classes all across the country, at both Indian and non-Indian casinos (there are Class II at private casinos in Alabama) and now understand the differences.
But have also played Video Lottery Terminals in New York State racinos, and wonder if they are Class II or III, you pointed out an exception of sorts for those managed by a state...read moreCraps Etiquette Question12 June 2009
Hi Stickman,
Quite a while ago you wrote an article on craps etiquette and there was one thing not covered and it has always been in the back of my mind to ask you about it, so I am.
The shooter whips the dice down the table and one of them careens into my stack of chips on the Don't Pass...read more![]() Phil Steele's FB preview -- still the best11 June 2009 For 15 years Phil Steele's College Football Preview magazine put out by Northcoast Sports (328 pages, $8.95) has been one of the greatest values ever for those who bet college football -- and it's not changed. One of the hardest-working researchers in the nation, Steele has a superior reputation for evaluating teams, players, conferences, offering projected starting lineups and five years of results and spreads, for he caters to bettors, coaches and fans of the game and does it on a year-round basis.
Well, the 2009 edition has arrived.
