Craps percentages on $44 inside

25 July 2015
Hi Stickman,Is the house edge on 44 inside at craps calculated as follows?18 ways to win $14 - 6 ways to lose $44 divided by 24 (number of possible decisions) x $44? I got (252-264)/1056 = 1.14 percent. Most writers claim this is a bad bet to make but it is better than betting just the 6 or 8, so would you mind showing me my error. Thanks,BillHi Bill,You pose an interesting question.Let’s just look at it from a high level first.Think about what is going on...read more

The break-even point in video poker

23 July 2015
Most of the questions I received about progressive video poker machines have to do with the break-even point. A reader will ask, “How big does the jackpot have to be to reach 100 percent payback?” And I can answer: The expected return with expert play reaches 100 percent with an 8,666-coin royal at 8-5 Jacks or Better, 5,763 coins at 9-7-5 Double Bonus Poker or 9,515 coins at 8-5 Double Double Bonus Poker, to name a few.A player named Mike came at progressives from a different angle.“Every video poker pay table has different strategies, right?” he wrote in an e-mail...read more

The horror of card counting

21 July 2015
FROM FRED: I read your short article on blackjack today. I wanted to ask you if you are taking into consideration the multi-decks that casinos use today.I was not sure when you wrote this article, so if everybody at the table has pat 19s, 20s and blackjacks this round, the next few rounds are not likely to be very good for the players...read more

Double exposure and Pete Rose

19 July 2015
QUESTION: My wife and I went to Detroit to visit relatives, and some of us went to a casino. Her brothers are blackjack players and so am I, but they like a game called double exposure. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen it before, but I know I’d never played it.In blackjack, the house has an edge because you only get to see one of the dealer’s cards, right? The dealer sees all your cards before he plays...read more

Have you every wished the dealer would match your double down and pair split bets with chips from her chip tray? Wish no more, because that’s exactly the twist in the new blackjack game called free bet blackjack. Pink-faced

16 July 2015
If you play in casinos enough, you’re going to have some embarrassing little incidents. Maybe there’s a little rule or custom you don’t know about. Maybe you’re caught up in the day and just have a brain cramp. Maybe sometimes you’re just a victim of circumstances, doing nothing wrong, but a comment by a dealer or a player makes you go red.I’ve certainly had my share...read more

Queens and baseball lines

12 July 2015
QUESTION: I know you’ve long said the basic strategy for the ante-bet in Three Card Poker is to bet with queen-6-4 or better, and to fold anything less. Does that mean you expect to make money with queen-6-4?Also, I was playing a few weeks ago and folded with queen-3-2...read more

Its history can be traced back almost 2,000 years to the Han Dynasty of China. The original game required you to pick 10 Chinese characters out of a total of 120.
