Winter's Coming

9 November 2002
That’s the warning coming off my television for Thursday, and Friday and now, Saturday and Sunday too... It looks like Lake Tahoe is going to get some pretty good snow. Plans already call for the opening of Heavenly Ski Resort on the 20th... this will insure that, if the weather reports are right. ... (read more)

$$$ Here, $$$ There, $$$ Everywhere

2 November 2002
That's the thought that went through my mind as I updated the Tournaments section of the www.RenoGamingGuide.com yesterday. I was working furiously on getting everything up to date, and I was amazed at the number of new tournaments that had cropped up. Cars, cash, cruises, more cars, more cash... ... (read more)

Cool Fall in Reno

25 October 2002
The oaks are turning the reds and oranges of fall, mixing with the yellows, oranges, and reds of the aspens that are already decorating the hillsides... it looks and feels like fall. It's been great for getting outside and enjoying the days. Last week found me putting my old "Gambling Gripes" section back into the mix. ... (read more)

Reno Light Show

18 October 2002
Traveling east on the interstate on Monday night, we looked up and saw what looked like a giant meteor with a huge tail crossing the evening sky... so large, and it appeared to be moving slowly... that we pulled over on the side of the freeway... eyes riveted to the sky, we started to open the doors to get out.... ... Touring Reno Casinos

11 October 2002
Tuesday seemed like the perfect day to get out and about in Reno... a warm 80 degree day, sunshine, and all those glistening casinos to look at, luring gamblers in their doors, with offerings of food and parties and jackpots galore. I headed out towards Sparks, enjoying the morning sunshine and the drive. ... (read more)

Snowy October!

4 October 2002
I had to go to the dentist on the first, and on my way across town, I passed many cars coming from the higher points around the lake with several inches of snow on the hoods. The roads weren't covered, but the rooftops around the lake were sugar coated. Maybe the weather guy was right when he said we were going to bypass autumn and go directly to winter. ... Brew 'n' Balls

29 September 2002
I've spent a great deal of time developing new things for the web pages... this week I added a section that covers all the Monday Night Football parties in Reno. WHEW! After all the time spent dealing with the few casinos up at Lake Tahoe... it gave me new insight into just how much is going on in Reno at any given time. ... (read more)

Somebody Won a Big One

8 September 2002
I was surprised to see the progressive jackpot on Wheel of Fortune (quarter) get so high this past week. It was climbing over a record $8 million, and those meters were really flying. I admit that even though I firmly believe that people like me don't win that kind of money, I had to get some quarters and take a shot at that one. ... (read more)

Big Win at Gold Ranch (Reno)

29 August 2002
Luck arrived about 4:30 P.M. on Thursday, August 22 for a man who is reportedly a resident of Verdi, Nevada when he took over a $1 Wheel of Fortune slot machine recently abandoned by another gambler, and in less than $20 lined up the winning symbols for a $3.9 million hit. It isn't the first time that ... (read more)

Reno's Still Bustling

18 August 2002
After all was said and done, the events at Hot August Nights were a roaring success... Again. Thousands of cars invaded all corners of the city. Thousands of people came to see the cars...and the bands...and even more cars. I went out with the digital camera in hopes of saving my butt and making a few bucks but it didn't happen that way. ...
