Hot, Hot, Hot

18 July 2002
Reno has been hot.... Hotter than Las Vegas even.... Yesterday and today the mercury topped at 109..... with no wind to offer relief. I found myself on what turned out to be "the hottest day ever" in Reno... having to drive up to Tahoe and pay some bills. It wouldn't have been so bad if my air conditioner worked... ... Lake Tahoe Fire

5 July 2002
I happened to have to go up to Lake Tahoe today, and as I rounded a bend on Highway 50 I spotted a rather large plume of smoke billowing up from the direction of the casinos... as I rounded the next bend I saw cars pulling off the highway to gawk at the fire roaring up the mountain from the woods just behind Caesars Tahoe and Harrah’s Tahoe. ... Lake Tahoe Laundry Room

29 June 2002
Well, it's back to the laundry room for an office again. As the weather got hotter and hotter down in Verdi, and the wind kept blowing and blowing, we drove the RV out on Monday morning and came up to Lake Tahoe. No convenient phone hook-ups and the most basic of cable, but it's under $20 a day with my AAA discount. ... (read more)

Reno Ramblings

31 May 2002
Memorial Day still found the RV parked at Gold Ranch, a mere 10 miles from Reno. It seemed like the sensible thing to do.... let the tourist tides pass safely, plus they have opened the other section of the park.... and now that the tide has ebbed, we appear to be the only RV left out here in the new section..... ... Tahoe again???

25 May 2002
While standing in a park on a warm day down in Nevada City... in the middle of the sentence that would have been the final word on moving into the house that had been offered to me... my cell phone rang... it was my son from the Bay area... with an offer of another house... ... (read more)

While standing in a park on a warm day down in Nevada City... in the middle of the sentence that would have been the final word on moving into the house that had been offered to me... my cell phone rang... it was my son from the Bay area... with an offer of another house... this one in Tahoe.... since "free" is a better price... ... Road Ramblings....

12 May 2002
Mother’s Day still finds me parked in the RV at Gold Ranch’s RV Park/Casino/Jack-in-the-Box/Arco in Verdi, Nevada... just ten miles outside of Reno.... eye-balling a house offered to me in Nevada City, California.... about a two-hour drive from Reno over the mountains.... ... (read more)

Unreal...Snow...Again

26 April 2002
Well, I got out of Tahoe, and headed down to Reno... so what happens? It snows in Reno.... go figure. I woke up this morning, looked outside of the RV at the car, and shivered. Four inches of snow buried the car, and it was still ricocheting snow flakes. Life at Gold Ranch Casino ... (read more)
