The 12 superstitions about craps: #6 - The virgin principle9 January 2012
The 12 most popular superstitions at the game of craps are adhered to or believed by most craps players -- so if you want to play the game and not be thought a craps barbarian, you should know them. Keep in mind that individuals add their own superstitions too, so you might hear someone yelling some incoherent thing at the table which, to him, will ward off the coming of the ominous 7 or bring it on if he is a darkside player. A woman who has never shot the dice before will have a good roll the first time she shoots the dice. Men believe this for sure and some are married to its reality. It is called the virgin principle. Hey, Luck is a Lady tonight, right? Dame Fortune? Nemesis? I was the first writer to actually coin the phrase "virgin principle" for this long-held belief, but craps players have been hunting up "virgins" for years and years. While in real life, virgins might not be as easy to find; in the craps world they are abundant. In fact, a corollary to this principle is this one: Any woman will have a better roll than any man.
