Top 10 casino openings and expansions30 July 2018 In the last couple months, there has been a lot of focus on the 49th World Series of Poker, the legalization of sports betting and the FIFA World Cup. But there are other areas where important stories have been coming up in, with several casino openings and expansions taking place in recent weeks.

And, trust me, we spent our fair share amount of time inside the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino taking in the action, watching John Cynn outlast the second-biggest field in Main Event history, culminating with a record-breaking — and painfully long — heads-up duel with Tony Miles. But, let's face it, a man can only watch and write about so much poker in one week...read moreFriday Five: Putting a wrap on the 2018 WSOP edition20 July 2018 Fresh off spending a week in Las Vegas covering the World Series of Poker, we'll stick with poker's most prestigious event one more time here at the Friday Five and recap a whirlwind week from the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.
The 2018 edition of the WSOP attracted a record 123,865 entrants from 104 nations around the world, exceeding last year's number of 120,995...read moreTop 10 facts, figures and observations from the WSOP Main Event final table16 July 2018 LAS VEGAS -- With another year of World Series of Poker coverage in the rear view mirror, it’s time to clean out the notebook and my poker-fatigued brain with 10 observations, facts and figures from a week in Las Vegas at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.10...read moreA misunderstood Dyer opens up after third-place exit at WSOP Main Event final table15 July 2018 LAS VEGAS – Maybe it was the just-rolled-out-of-bed hair. Or was it the black-rimmed glasses and monotone manner in which he continually answered reporters’ questions? Oh, and let’s not forget the now infamous sky-blue sweatshirt with a dinosaur holding a bouquet of balloons.
Whatever the case, Michael Dyer was clearly not a fan favorite the last few nights here at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino at the World Series of Poker Main Event final table.
The Main Event is now heads-up after the elimination of Michael Dyer in 3rd place for $3,750,000Dyer shoved over Tony Miles open with Ah Td...read moreCordial atmosphere at WSOP Main Event final table is a welcome change for players14 July 2018 LAS VEGAS -- It was about 15 minutes before the World Series of Poker Main Event final table began play on Friday night when a Tony Miles supporter approached Joe Cada and gave him a big hug.
“Thanks for stopping by, and good luck to Tony,” a smiling Cada said to the woman as she walked away.
Moments later, just as the cards were about to go in the air and ESPN lights flipped on, John Cynn jumped up from his seat, went around the table and slapped hands with each of the other five players, wishing them the best.
Hours before, Nic Manion sent out a tweet, sending best wishes to his fellow competitors:
This is the best looking group of guys I've ever seen! But for real, this has been the best experience ever and it's nice to have a group of guys that are laughing and enjoying the opportunity of a lifetime! Although millions of dollars were at stake and each of the players began Friday night in a rare position to become a part of poker history forever, there has been absolutely zero animosity at the table through the first two nights of the final table, being played here at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino...read moreMiles dashes Cada's bid for second WSOP Main Event crown13 July 2018 LAS VEGAS -- By maneuvering through the second-largest World Series of Poker Main Event field in history and making it to a second final table, Joe Cada was on the precipice of etching his name even further in the poker history books when he arrived at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino on Friday night.
He already became just the second player to win a WSOP Main Event and return to the final table (Daniel Harrington, 2004), but a win would have made him just the fifth player in history to win multiple Main Events (Stu Ungar, Johnny Moss, Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan) He also would have soared from 60th on the all-time money winning list to 18 at the age of just 30 years old.
Cada’s bid to join that elite class fell short on Friday night when his all-in call with pocket 10s got out-flopped by Miles’ A-K: A king hit the board, sending Cada to the rail in fifth place, which earned him $2.15 million.
Joe Cada built up his chips to over 47,000,000 and looked for more when he shoved over Tony Miles open with pocket 10's...read moreWSOP Main Event final table format changes with the times13 July 2018 The WSOP Main Event final table format has changed dramatically over the last few years. LAS VEGAS -- There was no WWE-style entrance music and there weren't any vintage Las Vegas showgirls or legendary PA announcers to be found. The crowd was still loud and raucous, but instead of more than 1,000 fans jammed into an iconic theater setting, seating is limited to a couple hundred.Oh, how things have change at the World Series of Poker Main Event final table over the last decade.Of course, the major difference between this year and 2008 isn’t the lack of pomp and circumstance surrounding the event, or the switch from the Penn & Teller Theater at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino to the makeshift, made-for-TV studio down the hall in the Amazon Ballroom...read moreCasino City’s Friday Five: 2018 WSOP Main Event edition13 July 2018 The World Cup is coming to a close with Croatia taking on France in the final on Sunday.
