Around the WSOP: Mike 'The Mouth' roars to another WSOP bracelet

12 June 2008
Because of Mike Matusow's gregarious personality and propensity for prop bets, sometimes it's easy to forget just how talented a poker player he really is. But early Thursday morning, Mike "The Mouth" provided a compelling reminder as to why he will go down as one of the greatest players this generation has ever seen when he outlasted a power-packed final table to win the 2008 World Series of Poker's Event #18, a $5,000 No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball w/ rebuys)...read more

The game is a 20-line, five-reel slot that features models, cash, hosts, checks, gold bricks, briefcases and scatter buttons for symbols. Tournaments we'd like to see at the WSOP

12 June 2008
Harrah's Entertainment (they haven't switched over to Caesar's yet) does a great job running the World Series of Poker. The tournaments are well organized and run smoothly. Nevada economy: Gaming revenues tumble again

12 June 2008
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- The slumping national economy has affected the bottom line of Nevada casinos much like what happened in the wake of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. For the fourth straight month and the fifth month out of the last six, gaming revenues decreased as gamblers cut their discretionary spending. The gaming win in April was just above $1 billion statewide, a 5.05 percent decrease compared with $1.053 billion won from gamblers in April 2007, according to figures released Wednesday by the Gaming Control Board. The total gaming win signified the third-largest single-month decline in statewide gaming revenues in five years...read more

Around the WSOP: From the Park Dept. to Poker Champ

11 June 2008
It's not that Jason Young didn't have to work hard for his victory in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout that finally came to a climatic finish in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Heck, you could even call what he went through downright draining if you consider the 29-hour tournament will go down as one of the longest two-day events in WSOP history...read more

Around the WSOP: Benevolence at its best

10 June 2008
When the life story of Eric Brooks is written some day, winning a World Series of Poker bracelet will likely be a small footnote. Not that we want to take away from Brooks' astonishing victory in the $10,000 Seven-Card Stud World Championship yesterday because it was most certainly one of the biggest upsets of the 2008 WSOP...read more

WSOP Weekend Wrap-up: The amateurs strike back

9 June 2008
The story line for much of this year's World Series of Poker has been the manner in which the professional players have flexed their muscles. But after seeing the pros capture nine of the first 10 bracelets that were up for grabs, the amateurs made a bit of a comeback over the weekend. Phillip Tom is one of three amateurs to win a WSOP bracelet this year...read more
