Card-counting iPhone application sees sale spike20 February 2009 LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Nevada gaming regulators hoped to freeze sales of a blackjack card-counting application for iPhones by telling the world the software could convert the high-tech phone into an electronic cheating device.
So much for that idea: The announcement had the opposite effect.
Travis Yates, an Australian software designer who developed the Blackjack Card Counter application that uses four different strategies, said his sales were averaging about 10 per day at $4.99 a pop on the iTunes Application Store.

Software inventor still owed $1 million from Progressive Gaming19 February 2009 LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- A software inventor who sold four patents to now-foreclosed Progressive Gaming International Corp. is still owed about $1 million for the intellectual property and isn't sure how he will collect his money.
The patents, which cover devices that can be used to automatically monitor and secure casino card games, were purchased by International Game Technology in January when the slot machine maker acquired "substantially all of the assets" of Progressive Gaming in a liquidation sale.

Nevada on the lookout for iPhone card counters16 February 2009 LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Users of iPhones beware -- state gaming agents are watching you.
California gaming authorities tipped off their Nevada counterparts to a blackjack card-counting program that can be used on either the Apple iPhone or the Apple iPod Touch portable music player.
"The program calculates the true count and does it significantly more accurately," according to a Gaming Control Board memorandum sent to casino operators last week warning of the electronic device.
