The Ultimate Blackjack Team?

6 November 2004
If you can count cards and play with an edge at blackjack over the casino, why would you want to join a team? Here is why. The more hands you play as a card counter, the more likely you are to win. The results of two counters of equivalent skill each playing 5,000 hands are the same as one counter playing 10,000 hands...read more

Hedging in Roulette

5 November 2004
Dear Frank, I have observed roulette on several occasions and never played. I have noticed that two areas of the board pay 2 to 1, those of course being the spots that allow the player to bet on columns and those that allow you to bet on the first, second, and third sets of 12 numbers. My local casino uses a roulette wheel that has only one zero space on it...read more

Pennsylvania's New Slot Law

4 November 2004
"Politics is the art of the compromise" Anonymous Legalizing gambling is not the same as decriminalizing it. When a state's lawmakers decide to make gaming legal, they never repeal the state's criminal anti-gambling statutes. Instead, the legislature creates a licensing system for operators and suppliers...read more

Harrah's Party Pit Great But Not For Everybody

3 November 2004
Harrah's East Chicago is putting the finishing touches on a multi-million dollar renovation of its casino in preparation for a gala grand re-opening later this month of a property that has been transformed into one of the most vibrant and exciting gaming environments in the Chicago area. Among the many developments on the spacious vessel is a "Party Pit", a concept that has been used at Harrah's property on the Las Vegas Strip and was also experimented with aboard the old Northern Star riverboat casino at Harrah's Joliet a number of years ago. Acing ACES Bonus Poker

2 November 2004
My husband and I were playing those Game King machines with a bunch of different video poker games on them. He started playing 8-5 Bonus Poker, and I noticed that there was also 8-5 ACES Bonus Poker, which gives the same payoffs as Bonus Poker except that four aces in the right order pays 4,000 coins instead of 400. I asked my husband if we should play ACES instead and take a chance at the bonus, and he said he thought they fixed it so that the aces came up less often on that game. Is that how they work it? Do they give you the big bonus if you get lucky, but fix it so that you don't get lucky so often? Sally Given the same strategy, four aces or any other winning hand will occur with the same frequency, regardless of pay table...read more

KENO As seen by a Video Poker Expert

1 November 2004
Although KENO is a simple game, with no strategy to learn, it is very much misunderstood. And no wonder! First of all, the mathematics is so complicated that the odds on even the simplest propositions cannot be arrived at mentally. In fact, most hand-held calculators are powerless to deal with it, either...read more

1 November 2004
If you understand coin flipping, you have a good grasp on the essence of gambling, transcending the rules of individual games. Take the idea of streaks. Or -- if you prefer, trends, patterns, or charting -- which are ultimately variations on a common theme...read more
