My question is a follow-up to your question about the timing of the selection of "numbers."
Do the casinos or "anyone else" have control over the the numbers selected by the RNG?
I have observed that some video keno machines "pause" sometimes after I hit the repeat bet button before continuing a game...read moreShould I place the 4 at craps?16 November 2008
Frank:
I have been told that you should not place a bet on the come-out roll. The payouts on just placing the point numbers pays better, example $5 pass line and $10 in odds on a point of 4. Why not just put $15 on the 4? What is your theory?
George
Dear George:
The placement of $15 on the 4 will pay $27 on a win — the house edge is a huge 6.67% on that bet.
However using a pass line bet or come bet pays more because the house edge on a double odds game is a mere 0.61%...read moreCan casinos set slot machines to pay only small amounts?15 November 2008

Sadly, most players have no idea of the house edges on the games that they play and most don't care to know these edges — such knowledge might diminish their fun...read moreCasino games of skill11 November 2008 All casino games are games of chance, but a select few incorporate elements of skill. Blackjack has strong elements of skill, leaving a game that can be beaten by experts. There are weaker elements of skill in card games such as Caribbean Stud, Let It Ride and Three Card Poker.
Among electronic games, slot machines and video keno are games of pure chance, with rare exceptions in some bonus rounds...read morePlaying It Smart: Do casinos make money from players going broke?10 November 2008 A bigger bankroll gives you a better chance of reaching any given profit point. The money lets you ride through setbacks with the hope of upswings. But do casino earnings depend on solid citizens with modest budgets busting out before hitting their win goals?
Consider a simple coin flip game...read moreWhen do slot machines select the outcome of a spin?10 November 2008
After reading your columns, questions and answers for a long time now, I haven't found an answer to this question. When we went to Atlantic City or Las Vegas, we would look for casinos that offered free instruction in gambling at the craps and blackjack tables...read more |
