The house edge on the don't pass

3 May 2011
Craps can be a game of opposites. You can bet the shooter's going to make his points on pass and come, or bet he won't make 'em on don't pass or don't come. You can place the 6, betting the shooter will roll a 6 before a 7, or lay the 6, betting the 7 will come first. And so on. A reader who identified himself as Jason phoned last month, asking about don't pass. "It's the opposite of pass, right?" he asked...read more

An Optimal Craps Wager

1 May 2011
The following is part of an email I received a while ago from one of my readers. My question has to do with "dice control." Assuming that you could come up with one less seven every 36 rolls (in other words only 5 sevens in 36 rolls), what would be the optimum profit margin to attain before raising your Pass Line bet? Although I believe in dice control, having witnessed it in action, there are different dice sets one uses depending upon what one wishes to accomplish...read more

Leaving free play on a machine

29 April 2011
John, I enjoy reading your articles. My question is about free play coupons. When put in the machine you must play it all through once before you leave the machine. My wife was playing and cashed out, leaving $40 on the machine. She moved over one seat, put her ticket in and realized she had left the money on the last machine...read more

What's in a (video poker game's) name?

26 April 2011
Usually, the name of a video poker game is enough to give you an idea of what to expect. If it's Jacks or Better, you know you're going to get 2-for-1 on two-pair hands, that all four of a kinds are going to pay 125 credits for a five-credit bet, and that the play experience is on a fairly even keel. If the name is Double Double Bonus Poker, on the other hand, you know you're in for a wild ride...read more

When it rains, it pours

25 April 2011
Would you do the following? You go to your favorite machine or table game and start playing in your normal fashion. But slowly you begin to see that you are being whittled away. After about two hours of play, you have lost the money you figured you'd use to play this particular session...read more

This is the second of a two-part article. People often say there is "book smart" and "street smart." I submit that in the world of the recreational gambling there is "Casino Smart." "Casino Smart" is an art and a science; it is knowing how to make the most of the casino experience...read more
