A visit to WMS27 September 2011 A visit to WMS Gaming's facilities in Chicago always has a touch of the fantastic about it, a little escape from the real world. That's double true as the annual Global Gaming Expo approaches, when the innovative slotmaker is putting the finishing touches on the games it will showcase to casino executives.
The expo begins a three-day run at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas on Tuesday, October 4, and WMS invited me to preview some of the new games it'll be showcasing...read moreThe hierarchy of casino games26 September 2011

Dear Kevin:
There are many games that I will play, research and write about -- and then never play them again...read moreThe 3-V and 2-V Set in Craps25 September 2011
Stickman,
I have found that spinning the dice using the 3-V set and the 2-V set gets me a lot of 7s on the come-out. Can you tell me what the optimum spin count and distance to the wall combination works best for you? I have found that around 2 spins and hitting about 4" from the wall gives me the best results for both 3-V and 2-V.
John
Hi John,
You will see more 7s when using the 3-V or 2-V sets than you will with the hardway set...read more![]() Why Players Lose24 September 2011 Blackjack is a good game to play no matter what casino you might visit. When it comes to the house win rate, it is one of the lowest in a casino. Casinos should only win $0.80 against blackjack players who are playing with a bankroll of $100 and are using Basic Strategy...read more![]() There's an App for That23 September 2011 I have written about keeping a gambling logbook in the past. This month I want to share an idea for those who may not have one. The main reason to keep a gambling log is for tax purposes. When you win jackpot over $1,200 at the casino, you will receive a W-2G form...read moreA shuffle through the gaming mailbag22 September 2011
Q. Some friends and I have a weekly poker game, and we have a question. Mostly we play ordinary stuff, with a lot of Hold'em and seven-card stud. Sometimes we have the high and low hands split the pot.
We don't go crazy with wild cards, except on the last hand of the night...read moreVideo poker money management21 September 2011
Hi John,
Really enjoy your site.
Just starting to play Deuces Wild video poker. Let's say I bring to a casino $2,000. I intend to run the whole amount through
the machine. The way I intend to do it is to deposit in the machine $100 at a time, entitling me to 20 hands on a $1 machine...read moreA guaranteed way to lose at roulette20 September 2011 Nearly every wager on a double-zero roulette table gives the house a 5.26% edge. It makes no difference whether you bet single numbers or 18-number combinations such as red or black, or anything in between. As long as you steer clear of the five-number bet on 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3, where the house edge soars to 7.89%, the house expects to keep $5.26 per $100 wagered.
That doesn't mean there's nothing you can do to hurt your chances of winning...read moreThe best and worst craps bets19 September 2011 I often talk about the best bets at craps and then refer to the worst bets at craps as a contrast. I give percentages and talk about what smart players should bet and what ploppies actually do bet to their own detriment.
But what are these best bets? And what are these worst bets?
OK, the very best bets at craps are the "rightside" pass line and come; on the "darkside" the don't pass and the don't come...read moreEver have one of those days when you never get ahead?19 September 2011 Every true casino aficionado can recall instances of being ahead of a game then giving it all, often all-and-then-some, back. In such cases, it’s easy to recall precisely when discretion would have been the better part of starry-eyed optimism or wanton greed...read more |
