26 April 2018
QUESTION: I have a baccarat story and question.I hadn't played very much, and when I had it was at mini-baccarat. The $10 mini tables are more in my price range than the big bets in the high-limit rooms, and really, I like making my own hit/stand decisions...read more

Ask the Slot Expert: Annoying video poker players

25 April 2018
Question: Seriously? You are annoyed by the noise the machines make? Get a set of headphones. That way you can be more certain no one will talk to you either. My wife lets all the credits ring up all the time. It takes more time, she plays less hands that way, and therefore is putting less money at risk. She also plays less than max coins, which I'm sure would bother you too, and will hit the play one button multiple times rather than re-deal, just to change things up a little. What bothers her is that even though there are ashtrays at the machines, and even though she is smoking at the time, someone will sit down right next to her and then be offended that there is smoke nearby...read more

House edge and element of risk

19 April 2018
QUESTION: I was going through the page on Mississippi Stud Poker at wizardofodds.com and got to the part on the house edge, and it lists a house edge of 4.91% and an element of risk of 1.37%.Can you explain what that means? A 4.91% house edge seems to say this is a pretty bad game, almost as bad as the 5.26% on roulette...read more

Their first time

15 April 2018
For every player in every game, there has to be a first time.In craps, there are many players who were reluctant to take that first plunge. There are dozens of betting options and it takes time to get the hang of multi-roll bets such as pass and don't pass.I recently contacted several craps players of my acquaintance and asked them if they were wary of the game at first, and how they overcame any reluctance to play.GARY: I never even thought about not knowing the rules...read more
