Boyd chairman to alter his role30 July 2007 LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- In the 1970s, it was easy for Boyd Gaming Corp. Chairman Bill Boyd and his father, Sam, to visit their company's casinos in one day.
Starting at the Eldorado in Henderson, the Boyds could stop by Sam's Town on the Boulder Highway and finish up the day at the California on Fremont Street.
As the company grew, adding the Stardust in the 1980s, going public in 1993, and expanding outside of Nevada to six different states over the past decade, the concept of visiting every casino became virtually impossible.
In announcing Friday that he would relinquish his role overseeing the day-to-day-operations of the casino company at the end of the year, Boyd, 75, explained the move was a way to get back to the old days, where he could have direct contact with customers.

Navegante gets OK to take over Sahara27 July 2007
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Nevada gaming regulators on Thursday gave the Navegante casino management group final approval to take over operations of the Sahara possibly as early as next week.
Las Vegas-based Navegante, which is headed by former MGM Grand executive Larry Woolf, was not planning any changes in the operation of the 85,000-square-foot Sahara casino, which includes retaining the properties casino employees and most of the gaming management.

Suppliers urged to understand needs23 July 2007 LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Major casino companies based in Las Vegas have expanded their presence along the Strip and beyond Nevada's borders. But they still look to local businesses to supply some of their needs.
The task for small businesses, however, has become a bit more challenging.
