4. New Mexico AG files lawsuit against Kalshi Earlier this week, Attorney General Raúl Torrez announced that the New Mexico Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Kalshi, alleging the company is unlawfully offering online sports betting in New Mexico while attempting to evade state gaming laws and the carefully negotiated framework that governs legal gaming in the state. The lawsuit alleges that Kalshi has created an online platform that functions as a sportsbook, allowing users to place wagers on sporting events while operating outside New Mexico’s licensing and regulatory requirements. The lawsuit seeks injunctive relief to halt Kalshi’s alleged unlawful operations in New Mexico and to prevent the company from continuing to offer sports-related wagering through its platform. 3. Former Alabama State players violate sports betting rules Sports betting integrity violations occurred in the Alabama State men's basketball program when former men's basketball student-athletes engaged in game manipulation for sports betting reasons, according to an agreement released by a Division I Committee on Infractions panel. The individuals — Amarr Knox, Shawn Fulcher, Corey Hines and Tony Madlock — are no longer members of the school's men's basketball program and are not currently competing in NCAA college sports. The group agreed on a phone call with a bettor to throw a game against Southern Mississippi. They also had a group chat with one of two known bettors. 2. WSOP brings crypto to global events On Wednesday, the World Series of Poker announced a collaboration with the Solana Foundation to bring crypto directly into the global poker experience. As of two days ago, at the 57th annual summer event at Paris Las Vegas and Horseshoe Las Vegas, players became able to purchase tournament tickets using Solana. This will be the first time in WSOP history where players can buy tournament tickets directly with crypto, and by leveraging Solana’s technology, this payment method will have zero processing fees. The integration will expand further at the 2026 WSOP Paradise in The Bahamas this December, where tournament winners can receive settlements in stablecoins on Solana, enabling near-instant access to payments. 1. Ontario introduces deposit limits for under-25 players Earlier this month, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation introduced a measure that requires deposit limits for online players under the age of 25 as their level of engagement increases, helping set early guardrails for safer play. The new measure is designed for a player group that research consistently identifies as potentially more vulnerable to gambling-related harm than other age groups. The deposit limit measure requires certain players under 25 to set a cap on how much money they can add to their account and it can be set as daily, weekly or monthly limit. This ensures players stay within the boundaries they set for themselves. Pre-commitment tools like deposit limits are evidence informed and support safer play by helping players define and stick to spending boundaries.
