Will Everything Return?

3 April 2021

ABBY: While we have gone to casinos a few times this year, the feel just isn’t the same. Would you agree with that observation?

CINDY: We are still trying to dig ourselves out of the worst illness of our lifetimes. I never thought we could be brought so low by a germ. So while I have enjoyed our visits I am very much aware of – and you are very much aware of – how the world of casino games has changed because of Covid-19. Everything has changed.

ABBY: In a way for me casinos were a great escape from the real world. I mean it was a world of games and dining and shows and just watching everyone else enjoying themselves…

CINDY: Or complaining about basically non-consequential things.

ABBY: Think of the wasted energy when the blackjack dealer makes her hand and beats the player. Think of the players who will grouse and moan; I wish those were now the only worries we have, a bad hand at blackjack or a tough loss for the trip. You can’t think like that when you are breathing through a mask. Doing that makes you realize how changed the world is right now.

CINDY: I’d rather seven-out in craps than seven-out in life. I think we are much more aware of the possibility of how awful things could be for us as they have been for many people we know.

ABBY: So you don’t think of the casino as an escape any more?

CINDY: I do still think of it as an escape but now I also bring more of the real world with me. I make sure I wear my mask. I make sure I am always washing my hands or using a hand sanitizer. I wipe down ever surface I might touch in my room. I never did that before.

ABBY: I wash the glasses in my room. I never did that before. But I will still go to the casinos because no matter the preventative things I do when I am there, I still have the fun of playing and dining. It is still an escape for me. Just an escape even with reality around every nook and cranny. Yes, things are different than in the past, at least for the time being, but hopefully we will be getting back to our casino lives as they used to be.

CINDY: I feel the same way. I think we just have to be more cautious and better prepared in the future for the upcoming Covid diseases that might come our way. Our country can’t have its head in the sand. We just have to know that the games we play in the casinos are nowhere near as important as the games we have to -play in life.

ABBY: Life has an edge over us and that is for sure.

CINDY: So we should take our pleasure as we can and for me and I know for you, Abby, we have our casinos to play at and that is a reward in what has been a rough time for many people.

ABBY: I do wish health and happiness to everyone in these times.

CINDY: Amen!
