ABBY: I think we can take a look at another betting system. What do you think?

CINDY: Absolutely. Let’s do more. Here goes another one. Notice anything about the second and third columns bets at roulette? Okay, on the third column there are eight red numbers and only four black numbers.

ABBY: On that second column bet, look at how many black bets there are; yes, there are eight black bets and the rest are red bets, four of them in all. So, you can see that with these two columns bets, the black and red are not evenly distributed. It’s eight to four for one or the other color.

The first column is perfect because it splits the reds and blacks evenly, six reds and six blacks. I am sure you can see that you have many ways to play these outside wagers.

CINDY: Now, you will be spending more than one bet’s worth of money on some of these betting strategies. If that doesn’t bother you, here goes!

Bet that third column bet. You have those eight red numbers on that column but you only have four blacks there. So now you also put a bet on the even-money black wager. You have to use your money intelligently so a hit on black or a hit on the column will win you some money.

Let’s look at one method. Bet 10 units on that third column and 10 units on the even-money black bet. Now, if that column hits you win 20 units as the payoff is two-to-one but you lose 10 units on the black, giving you a total win of 10 units.

You can structure this betting system in any way you like. But don’t think this can overcome the house edge. It can’t.

ABBY: Going with the middle column can be interesting. Your middle column bet has eight black numbers but it only has four reds. Yes, you bet that column and also put a bet on the outside even-money red bet.

As with the third column bet, you can make this wager any way you desire.

A word to the wise (we always have to give a word to the wise): With all betting systems at roulette or any other casino game, the house steadily grinds out its percentage edge over the player.

Players can’t feel the edge as they are playing but that edge is there nevertheless. The house edge is indomitable. Casinos couldn’t exist without figuring some way to make money from the players. And the players? They are praying that they will make some money.

So who is right? Come on, you know the answer.

The casino edge is based on math; the players’ prayers are based on superstitions and the incorrect idea that some being is rooting for them to overcome the math. Tonight, maybe; in the long run? No.

The math ultimately wins the contest.

I think we are beginning to see the truth here. It is possible that even Houdini couldn’t escape the house edge with any of these betting systems. But they are fun to play if you are in control of your money and don’t over bet.
