That Depends

2 June 2022

CINDY: The big question is sometimes the simplest question. What game do you want to play this session?

ABBY: I think it sounds simple but I know that how I feel, physically I mean, will sometimes dictate what I want to play.

CINDY: Good point. When I get to the casino for a few days of a stay I tend to be all geared up to play. I am looking for the excitement of getting into the action. I am thinking of playing craps as the entry point. It is the most exciting game after all.

ABBY: I agree on both points with you. I am thinking craps as well. My energy is about to explode on that first few moments in the casino. Even if it’s only been a week or two since the last visit, I don’t know, you just get charged up. I am like a battery when it comes to casino play. I recharge –

CINDY: Quickly and fully!

ABBY: Quickly and fully, you’re right. I know, that amazes me too. You’d think that I’d need months or several months before I’d want to go again. But a couple of weeks is enough to get the juices flowing. I guess a casino is like a bar of chocolate; make that a bar of dark chocolate, maybe with some nuts inside. You just love the taste and you want some more.

CINDY: What about after you’ve gotten settled in? Do you switch from craps to a different game?

ABBY: I tend to play some blackjack, usually in the afternoon when the tables are full so I play fewer hands – that’s a key to blackjack. You don’t want to play a lot of hands. I find that with all the games, you don’t want to play the number of hands the casino would want you to play.

CINDY: Here is something interesting about that. A casino will make more money from a full table than from a table with one or two players. I mean we’re talking about everyone being the same level of player. But each player is better off at such a table too.

ABBY: It is therefore good for the house and good for the casino player - those full tables. Well, I want what’s good for the player and that is for sure playing fewer decisions.

CINDY: I will play roulette in the afternoon and sometimes at night. I like the history of that game. I am not that into video poker but I will play some slots now and again.

ABBY: I know we are both aware that you do not want to play too much when you are tired –

CINDY: Or tipsy.

ABBY: Right. We know the casino has the edge at every game but you do not want to give them more of an edge by foolish play. And tired and tipsy can do that for a player. It can throw them off. That is something to be aware of; those things that can throw you off your game.

CINDY: I think too many players brag about how they played so much they forgot the time. Not something to be proud of.

ABBY: If you forget the time, you might forget the money you’ve lost or not even know what you are losing at any given moment. Or not even know how much money you are winning and that the time has come to call it a night. You also might find yourself betting foolishly.

CINDY: Agreed!
