"Same Old, Same Old"

3 October 2024

CINDY: When someone says to you that they are the “same old, same old” what are they telling you? I am guessing that as it applies to the casinos, there is “nothing new under the sun.” They are bored. They aren’t having a wild good time. Things are pretty dull.

ABBY: And that means that their casino play is leaving something in the dust; pleasure, challenge, changing circumstances. “Same old, same old” just shouldn’t be on any casino player’s lips. The casino is the place where nothing should appear the same. It is supposed to be dynamic; always changeable, not some stick in the mud experience.

CINDY: Now can the casino aspect of the “same old, same old” be changed?

ABBY: I think if the player is ready to listen to us, yes indeed the “same old, same old” can be changed and casino gambling can become delightful again. But listening is always a big step.

CINDY: So, what is the first step on the road to fun as opposed to the “same old, same old” response as it is currently and in the immediate past?

ABBY: Okay, the first step and the most important to get going on this is to analyze the games you are playing. Why aren’t they giving you the fun they used to give you? What is it about the games that leaves you saying “same old, same old” when you are asked how everything is going? This is the first thing to tackle.

CINDY: If you are a slot player and the machines are no longer fun then walk away. The machines aren’t going anywhere are they? The machines are always the “same old, same old” aren’t they? Since they aren’t going anywhere, they can always be returned to if you can’t find a replacement.

ABBY: By the way, if the “same old, same old” lingers throughout your thinking then maybe you should consider another hobby. Would that kill you? I doubt it. Put something else in place of casino playing.

CINDY: Okay, slot players should change the machines they play or dump the machines for the moment to remove the “same old, same old” from your responses. That’s an important ingredient.

ABBY: Simply walk away from the environment that causes the “same old, same old” repetition. That environment isn’t giving you fun so let it go.

CINDY: Now, look into the table games. Some of them are not all that easy to become proficient in. Blackjack can be difficult but people who play blackjack really enjoy it. Would that be the right game? You might not say, “same old, same old” ever again when asked how things are going.

ABBY: Craps! It is the most exciting game in the casino in my opinion. There is no “same old, same old” when you talk to a craps player. You can also make good betting choices, unlike most craps players who seem to be stuck on the worst bets, and not have to worry about being blown away every time you play.

CINDY: The new games, often called “carnival games,” can be fun but they tend to cost a lot more money to play because they have multiple bets. I think you should go down the traditional table game road. You know roulette, craps, blackjack, or Pai Gow poker and a few others. There won’t be any “same old, same old” if you get hooked on any of these.

ABBY: So, take a chance and change that “same old, same old” to something like “I’m having a lot of fun.”
