Playing it Straight

CINDY: Let me sum us up for our readers.

ABBY: This should be interesting.

CINDY: We are not very daring in our betting strategies.

ABBY: True.

CINDY: We tend to play the good games using the good strategies. Trying to make a killing is not really in our world view.

ABBY: Losing is the worst thing for each of us. I’ll give you that.

CINDY: Now we realize that we love the casino lifestyle as I now call it. We enjoy going to the casinos a few times a month. I enjoy staying over for a couple or a few days.

ABBY: Yep.

CINDY: Therefore, we must be very careful with how we spend our money. We want to last so we can keep doing this.

ABBY: You’d think then that we would be comp crazy. We are just the opposite. We play the games within ourselves. We know what we can afford to lose and we know how long we like to play. That combination tells us that at “this game” we play for an hour at such and such a bet.

CINDY: We’ve rarely strayed from that. We play it straight, just like that. We know what we can afford and how to apportion our money so we can go to the casinos whatever number of times we want to go.

ABBY: As far as our strategies at the games, that’s easy to spell out. We play the basic strategy in blackjack. We both have cards for all the different types of blackjack games and we use those cards. Now sometimes other players get annoyed that we might slow down the game because we are looking at the cards.

CINDY: Those players should know that the fewer hands they play the better it is for them. We have to face that house edge when we play and the more decisions we face the better chance we will be behind.

ABBY: We stopped telling other players that because no one wanted to hear us lecture them on proper play and proper attitude when you play.

CINDY: We might give ourselves a couple to three hours of blackjack play if things are going okay at the game. If not, we move over to craps. This is our favorite game and we love to shoot the dice. We still seem to be in a real minority at the craps tables which is still a man’s world.

ABBY: Those old World War II and Korean War veterans are basically gone now but women still haven’t found this game. Given a choice of playing a slot machine or playing craps I just can’t play a machine first. Craps would be the first choice for me.

CINDY: We are totally conservative players at craps. Pass Line with odds; one or two Come bets with odds. That’s it. We sometimes really play contained by making only one bet. If we are hot, we can go to two bets then three. But we are careful with our money. Craps is a game where players can lose themselves in the game and often that is not the best state of mind in which to be.

Now, yes, we are playing more roulette to really get a feel for that game and we’ll report in a few weeks.

ABBY: I think that if you want to really, really enjoy the casino experience, then you have to be careful with your money and what strategies you use against the casinos. You can’t frequent the casinos if you are having problems with your bankroll. Caution is the BIG word. You must be cautious. You should never be n a blow-out emotional state.

CINDY: Agreed one hundred percent.
