People Needling People

2 November 2023

CINDY: Airports are full of people and some of those people can be as obnoxious and annoying as all get-out. The same can be true of movie theaters, stores, shopping malls, waiting in doctors’ offices, schools and so on. Where there are people, there are annoying people – the world of people is peopled with annoying people. That’s the way it is. I guess you could call this a fact-of-life. People equal annoying people.

ABBY: The same is true of casinos. Casinos are full of people and some, if not many, of these people are royal pains in the you-know-what. The problem in casinos is that people more often than not lose their money. This does not make them happy campers. It makes them miserable louts. The formula is simple here – the more people there are in a given place, the better the chance of finding some, more or a lot of these people ones you wished you never found. Casinos are not always the places to find the best, generally relaxed of folks.

CINDY: Casinos are often spectacularly crowded places too, especially on the weekends and especially in the really big casinos where thousands of people are looking to capitalize on their luck in concentrated crowds of people who are not always at their best.

ABBY: I can’t stand the complainers, casino patrons who can’t seem to find anything nice to say about a place, its dealers, its service people or his or her fellow and sister players.

CINDY: Wait on a line for a show and there will be complainers angry that they have to wait on a line for a show…or wait on a line for the buffet and find out from some sour people that the buffet isn’t so hot here…or wait on a line for valet parking and it is the slowest parking on the planet Earth…or wait on a line for a free comp of something or other and that these comps are really cheap garbage…or complain about the low level of all the dining comps they get from this particular casino…

ABBY: Or what about the people who complain about their bad luck in the temples of chance? What about them?

CINDY: Isn’t that kind of stupid when every casino player should know they are playing against the house edge and are, in a short, or medium, or long time, going to lose and that is all there is to that.

ABBY: I once saw a young women throw a tantrum when the blackjack cards went against her. She roared that the casino fixed its games so players will ultimately lose their money! How disgraceful these casinos were!

CINDY: Now seriously, what planet did this young lady come from when she didn’t understand that the casino has the edge on every game and just about every bet in the place? Did she think that casinos made money because they were luckier than the players? Did she think the casinos based their empires on good luck?

ABBY: I do ignore the complainers because engaging them in conversation is a royal waste of time. How do you tell someone who whines and complains all the time to – let me say this gently – shut up because they are irritating, annoying and should go home and take a long, long nap?

CINDY: If you are a person who easily gets into a bad mood, stay home and leave the rest of us free of your miserable personality.

ABBY: Agree! One hundred present agree!
