Conversations in the casino21 April 2022
ABBY: I don’t mind regular conversations at a blackjack table. I am talking about normal people. Not the “experts.” Those I can’t stand. CINDY: I think every gambling writer at one time or another has come down on the “experts.” These experts think they actually have the right strategy of play and they are constantly hounding the other players to play their hands correctly, meaning the way the expert plays his hands. Almost always the experts do not know the correct overall basic strategy which was devised by a computer. By the way, every expert I have met has been a man. When I get the first expert woman, I’ll say man or woman when I refer to them in a sentence. ABBY: Let’s forget the experts. We can deal with them in another article. I have been a part of some great conversations at blackjack and even occasionally at Pai Gow Poker. CINDY: What are these conversations? ABBY: The go the gamut. We can talk about family. I do that superficially. We can talk about the world… CINDY: The flesh and the devil? ABBY: Close that’s for sure. I like people who have a decent sense of humor and who don’t moan and grown when the game is going against them at any given time. CINDY: For me I prefer talkers who don’t try to dominate the conversation. I don’t want someone to take over the table. ABBY: The drunks or semi-drunks who think they are comedians! CINDY: Save me from them, please! ABBY: If you are a funny person, it will come out. You don’t have to strain. Those strainers should go play some other game, any game, except at any table where I am. CINDY: Are the good talkers, players who have a lot of experience in the casinos? ABBY: Good question. I don’t know. If you are playing at a $25 or $50 minimum table, I think a lot of those players tend to be somewhat older. I guess many would have more experience in the casino. Still, I am not sure of my answer. CINDY: You finally don’t know something. ABBY: First time for everything. CINDY: I do talk as well. But I prefer to listen if someone has a good story to tell – as long as the story isn’t too long! I find that both men and women enjoy a nice conversation at the table. I haven’t noticed a difference between the sexes. Fun people come in all varieties. ABBY: Most of the conversations are lightweight. The people who are good conversationalists can make a game more fun. The desire to talk and share is innate in human beings. CINDY: Now that is the truth. ABBY: Certainly!
