At Home?

3 February 2022

CINDY: Have you noticed that there are far more commercials about playing casino games in your own home? On your own phone too. I think this is becoming a really big movement.

ABBY: It is not just sports betting but you can get the app of whatever company and play various casino games. Okay, is this the beginning of replacing the real casinos? Maybe not all of them but enough of the stragglers will go out of business and the big ones will just scoop up the players.

CINDY: Well, we’ve both played on the Internet casinos. I had fun but I just don’t see at-home casinos replacing real casinos. How can you duplicate the atmosphere of a real casino?

ABBY: Are you opposed to playing casino games at home?

CINDY: Not at all. Adults should have the right to spend their money anyway they choose. I do not want the government to come in and make extra laws about this. Still, being able to do this is a big responsibility.

ABBY: I do think that players have to be careful, however. Not all players have discipline and can keep themselves controlled and contained. The house is going to have its edge at the games, no matter how good the games appear to be in the commercials. So being careful is a very important ingredient for the players.

CINDY: If your discipline begins to fade so will your bankroll. That is a hard and fast rule that should be understood by players before they start to play on their phones or inside their homes.

ABBY: Will you play?

CINDY: Perhaps, at times, maybe special times. But I just love everything about going to the real casinos. You have great rooms to stay in and great restaurants to dine in. You get to observe other players. You have a lot of great shows too. How can you possibly replace that?

ABBY: I just love walking through the slot areas. When you hear the screams of someone who has hit it big, come on, that sends chills up my spin.

CINDY: I agree. Just watch a real craps game. Does it get more exciting than that?

ABBY: Back to at-home or phone playing. Do you think real casino players are going to stick with that instead of still going to the real places? I don’t. I think it will be a fad. But most players are not going to throw the real casinos out of the window. They are just too much fun. My living room is comfortable but it doesn’t supply me with the casino thrill ride.

CINDY: I do think the gambling revenue will start to be shared. Too many people want that instant excitement and they will use the app. I think that will happen. But no way do the real casinos get replaced. Anyway, that’s my opinion.

ABBY: Back to my original concept. Players have to be very, very careful they don’t overdo it.

CINDY: Agree
