Abby Bets Even-Money Roulette for 100 Hours

CINDY: Okay, Abby, it’s your turn now to tell us how you did making even-money bets at roulette.

ABBY: I stuck with only betting either black or red. I just sat right in front of those bets and it was a relaxed experience, at least physically.

CINDY: Let me set the frame here. We both did 100 hours of roulette plays, two to three sessions a day of perhaps two hours each. I did straight-up betting of $10 and sometimes $20 split on two different numbers. Abby did $10 on red or black and sometimes she went to $20. You can read my results in last week’s issue.

ABBY: I won one million dollars! Just kidding. I found betting the even-money red or black to be a decent way to play the game of roulette. I did have some losing streaks where I might lose four to six bets in a row. There were not too many losses of six bets but I had plenty of four loss bets.

CINDY: Did you have any method for the betting? Or did you just, you know, throw out a bet without some kind of plan?

ABBY: Good question. Even though the game is totally random, there is a real tendency to think how you bet can influence the results. It’s a childish idea but after two sessions, you find your mind falling into that type of thinking during the third session of a day. Of course, my betting and when I bet or how I pushed out my chips, which was just pushing them along the felt since red or black was right in front of where I was sitting, but none of these had anything to do with anything.

CINDY: Your plan?

ABBY: Okay. I would often just bet whatever color had just come up. If red hit, I would bet red until black hit and then I would bet black. That was one way. Or I would bet the opposite color. So if red came up, I would bet black. Or I would say, “Now you are going with one color for the next ten spins,” and I would bet either red or back ten times in a row.

CINDY: Any difference in the results?

ABBY: Not really. Just little differences but none were markedly different that you’d think the wheel was biased or something. I actually preferred betting the opposites but I didn’t do that too much more than the other ways I bet those two propositions.

CINDY: How about your emotional states during your play?

ABBY: I found I had that delicious anticipation for every spin of the wheel, whether I had just won the last decision or lost the last decision. There was never a time when I was bored. Each spin was like the race of a horse – how would it all end?

CINDY: Okay, kiddo, how did it all end for you? (I did not know the results until right now.)

ABBY: I lost. I went back and forth but slowly the casino pulled ahead of me. I was down about eight hundred something dollars at the end of one hundred hours. I did have some great sessions though. The best I started winning and I upped my bet to $20 and won a few of those hands in a row. I had more losing sessions but the winning sessions were great.

CINDY: Would you recommend playing the even-money bets?

ABBY: Absolutely.

CINDY: We certainly had different reactions to the type of bets we made and how the game unfolds based on our betting choices. I am not a lover of straight-up bets anymore. My emotions got the best of me.

ABBY: I was pretty even emotionally. I enjoyed myself at just about every session.

CINDY: Was this a good experiment?

ABBY: Definitely.
