A Proposition About a Roulette Proposition3 March 2022
ABBY: Both Cindy and I are bankroll conscious. We do not want to have very long losing streaks as – to us – such streaks are really bring-downs, creating really negative feelings. So, we do not make bets on the inside numbers. CINDY: Say I want to bet $20 at a $10 game. Even if I split my $20, I only have two bets riding. That means I will experience over-time two wins and 36 losses on the American double-zero (0, 00) wheel. That can be a lot of losses one after another if I don’t get much luck. ABBY: We like what are called the columns bets. You can see these columns going across the felt. You have the first column which are numbers 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34. The second column are numbers 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35. The second column are numbers 3, 6, 9, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35, 36. CINDY: When you bet a column, if one of your numbers comes up, you are paid two-to-one. A $10 bet wins $20. You have 12 ways to win your bet and 26 ways to lose. ABBY: Yes, notice that you lose the bet if the 0 or 00 hits. The house edge is still 5.26 percent. You will not go through overly extended losing streaks playing this way. CINDY: And even after a short losing streak, a few wins paying two-to-one can be very helpful in getting you back at having a shot at winning. I like the idea of going back-and-forth with the casino. Yes, you can get lucky right away with inside betting but generally you tend to face early losses. ABBY: If you do play the European / French game with the single-zero (0) then you still have 12 ways to win but only a loss on that single zero. So there are 25 losses and 12 victories. The house edge on the single-zero game remains at 2.7 percent. CINDY: A word of caution with the single-zero wheel is that many casinos that offer both games, will make the single-zero wheel have higher minimum bets. So, a lower edge is only one thing that you must consider. You can actually have a far stronger negative expectation if you bet more. ABBY: How much money should you have with you to play as we recommend? I’d say for a $10 bettor, give yourself 30 or 40 tries. That’s $300 or $400 in total. You should have no problem lasting a good amount of time at the table with that bankroll behind you. CINDY: How should you choose which column to bet on? You can do a trend betting concept and if the numbers repeat on the column then you keep betting that column. ABBY: Or you can go: “I think I pick that one!” CINDY: True!
