A Gallon of Whine18 July 2024
CINDY: Hamlet said, “There is nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so.” He meant we could, in many circumstances, take something that is essentially good and make it bad or we could take something essentially bad and make it good. ABBY: At least our thinking can make these two opposites seem the same…so to speak. What’s good is bad and what’s bad is good. I think of Hamlet’s words when it comes to casino gambling. Nowhere can good become bad and bad become good as much as it can when you are putting your money on the layout. That is our thinking; the thought of good can make the bad become good and, more important, the thought of bad can make the good bad. Follow us on this. CINDY: One thing we hate is when players whine. Correct. We all want to whine, like little babies when things are going bad. That is natural. But most of us don’t because we have a sense of self and whining just isn’t appropriate especially at our ages. ABBY: We aren’t “advanced” ages but whining just doesn’t work for any age. It can’t change the nature of the games we play so why else whine? What’s the point of it all? Now, some players spent in inordinate amount of time whining and complaining and annoying us. You place a bet, any bet, lose it and start whining. “I just can’t win. I just can’t win. The game is fixed. I just can’t win. Whine, Whine. Whine.” CINDY: Now, the guy makes another bet. Maybe he doubles up on his previous bet and – loses it! Right down the crapper it goes. “Oh, God, oh, God, please help me. The game is fixed. It’s fixed. Why do I play? Whine! Whine! Whine!” Now he makes another bet. ABBY: You can guess how this is going to go, can’t you? CINDY: He goes down for the count. One to 10! ABBY: The whines get louder as do his sad monologues. “Can’t you just give me one win? Please? Just one! I am just praying to you. Please.” Now his whines are becoming louder and snifflier. The other players are showing their discontent. CINDY: Now some players are actually leaving the table. There they go. They have lost some or won some but not one of them is whining. They are agitated. That is what they are. Agitated. Really agitated. ABBY: Are whiners annoying? Yes, they are. They can put a true damper on any game you play where they are losing. Some whiners whine even when they are winning. They whine about yesterday or the day before. CINDY: Telling a whiner not to whine is a waste of time. Whiners are created by nature. It is as if certain humans just can’t stop their whining selves. ABBY: If the casino has empty tables and a whiner is going full steam, we will leave. If the whiner is totally overwhelming and we can’t leave the table? What then? We make that decision when the time comes. As we get older we leave sooner. CINDY: Is there anything that a player can do to stope the whiners? ABBY: I doubt it. CINDY: I doubt it too. ABBY and CINDY: Whine…Whine…Whine. This article is provided by the Frank Scoblete Network.
