MGM Detroit Accused of Being Anti-French22 December 2004DETROIT, Michigan – As reported by the Detroit News: "A former French food manager at the MGM Grand Detroit Casino has filed a federal lawsuit charging the casino with operating a hostile anti-French workplace environment and firing him for opposing discriminatory practices against African-Americans. "Marc Regard filed the suit Monday in U.S. District Court in Detroit asking a jury to award him in excess of $75,000 in damages and lost wages. "In the suit, the French-born Regard, who is white, alleges that when France opposed the United States' involvement in the Iraqi war that the casino launched a 'vicious anti-French campaign of harassment' against him that included encouraging its employees to boycott French products and services. "He charges MGM fired him on May 28, 2003, because of his French origin, age, race and association with African-Americans. "Bob Berg, a spokesman for MGM, said the casino has not been served with the lawsuit and declined comment…" |
