Ask the Slot Expert: Would I have won more at a higher denomination?

23 January 2013
I love your columns and appreciate the sharing of your knowledge. When the woman [in a recent column] stated that she has better results from "stopping the spin," your answer surprised me. When I see people "stopping the spin," I always think it is more of a superstition than a way to actually control the result. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Stopping the spin does affect future results

16 January 2013
Hello John, I don’t agree completely about your reply about stopping the wheels and having no effect on outcome, only speeding up play. Ask the Slot Expert: Stopping the spin gives me better results

9 January 2013
Either I am extremely lucky or others are extremely unlucky. I have watched several people sit down at particular machines I play and they play the max bet of $2.50 per spin. They spin and spin and rarely hit anything over $3.00 –- most hits are for $0.40 or $0.80. They get up and I sit down and place the same max bet; however, I stop the spin. ... (read more)

John: I really enjoy reading your advice and you're on the money most of the time. However, on December 26, 2012 you were asked about taxes being withheld from a slot jackpot and I think you failed to mention that you can deduct your losses from your winnings and most of the time not pay any taxes at all on smaller jackpots lower than $2,000. ... 26 December 2012
Hi John, I am traveling to Vegas again soon and have a question regarding hitting a jackpot of over $1,200. I would like to know when I won $1,250 last year if I could have had my taxes taken out right then instead of later when I file? Is there a certain limit that they will only do that with? Heading ... Regarding the jackpot on a progressive like Megabucks and Wheel of Fortune, does the casino or specific machine have any part in determining who hits the jackpot? Also, if someone ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Can you tell a machine's hit frequency?

22 November 2012
Is there any way to tell the hit frequency for either Class 2 (Native) or Class 3 slot machines (Las Vegas type)? Nick Dear Nick, It's very easy to determine any machine's hit frequency.
