Playing poker can be a long, complex task and at the same time be fun, exciting and provide a great past-time. Knowing the rules, procedures and how follow players play their hands can also be interesting and very challenging.

Here are some things to take in consideration when play the game of poker. They are observations, suggestions, and reminders that you should know and use. All are designed to help you improve your game a little and maybe at lot.

• Many cardrooms and casinos have rules and procedures which you must ahead to.

• When you get a weak hand in the initial deal – fold early, don’t wait.

• We know the dealer, we know the big and small blind, but where is the “Pone”? The player who sits on the dealers’ right side and usually cuts the cards in a card game.

• Wait until you improve your game before moving to the high-level table.

• Small pairs don’t win hands.

• Don’t let your opponents see you as a specific type of player.

• The best position at Texas Hold’em is when you are on the button.

• When your opponent goes “All in’, besides losing all the funds, you can lose your seat.

• At Hold’em, sitting immediately left of the big blind gives you an advantage by playing only selective and strong starting hands.

• A player who continually calls cannot win at poker.

• The players’ position in Hold’em is more important than in any other poker game.

• Being aggressive by raising has the tendency to reduce the number of opponents.

• Reading the board correctly will help you to become a winning player.

• Buying a good poker book is a lot cheaper than getting an education at the table.

• “Losers” will call hands, just to see an opponent’s cards.

• When it comes to poker, you should remain a lifetime student.

• In Hold’em, the two cards you are dealt are the only cards that set you apart from the other players and give you the chance to win.

• When it comes to poker, ask a professional for advice, not a friend.

• Tight players usually keep neat and organized stacks of chips, loose aggressive players usually maintain sloppy stacks.

• When you get that “big hand” make your opponents pay to see it.

• An excellent player will play differently in some situations in order to throw off his opponents.

• The “gap” between winning and losing is what knowledge is all about.

• When it comes to bluffing, the one who does it first, stands the best chance of winning.

• The 2006 World Series of Poker had 45 different poker events. Many know the No-Limit Hold’em main event winner got $12 million, but the #1 and smallest event was the casino employee game which awarded the winner, Chris Gros of Caesars Palace, $127,496.

• One of the first women to play in a poker tournament, Linda Johnson, entered a $44 dollar buy-in at the Las Vegas Club in Las Vegas in 1978.

• There is an old western tale that said poker was dealt to the left so a man could reach for his pistol with his shooting hand if he suspected cheating.

• In 1978 when Doyle Brunson’s Super System Poker book was first published it had a price tag of $100 and was considered a best seller. Today it goes for about $30.
