Gaming GuruHealthy body equals happy gambling5 December 2015
Gambling in a casino or at a racetrack or betting on a sports event can and does put a big strain on your mind as well as your body. To be able to do some gambling at the top of your ability, try to make the length of your session reasonable with frequent breaks. At most jobs they offer a couple of break periods throughout the shift. These breaks are designed to remove the physical and mental anxiety of the job for a short period of time and regenerate a worker, thereby allowing that worker to become more productive when the break is over. The same idea can be applied when it comes to gambling. For example, when at the blackjack table, play for 45 minutes or an hour and then take a 30-minute break period. Take a walk outside the casino, go to the gift store and look at a magazine or just look around and see what they offer. Go to the coffee shop and have a glass of juice. Stay away from soft drinks and alcohol; they will slow your mental concentration as well as your body. Spend some time people-watching, that can be a lot of fun. Don’t spend 6 to 8 hours at the tables after a six-hour flight and try to gamble all night. While gambling, do what all doctors say to do; get plenty of rest, follow a proper diet and exercise. All those actions will add to your stamina and allow you to be in top shape for any gaming you want to do. BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW • Las Vegas is the only place in the world where Elvis (impersonator) can marry you at a drive-up window in a pink Cadillac and be available 24 hours a day. • One of poker's unusual endurance games took place in 1873 in McDonald’s Tavern in Atlantic county, New Jersey. Four well-to-do natives of the state sat down to a friendly game of poker. The first bet was $1,000 and the action never got below $50. They played for seventy hours and when the chips were counted, they found that none of them were out much beyond twenty-five dollars. • Jerry Yang won the 2007 World Series of Poker Texas Hold’em Championship at the Rio in Las Vegas after a final table that took 16 hours to complete. • The shortest-lived casino in Las Vegas history opened on January 8, 2008 for eight hours in a move necessary to keep a gambling license current. Station Casinos opened a trailer holding 16 working slots in the center of the vacant lot that used to be the Castaways (formerly the Showboat). The action extended the license for two years, during which time Station decided whether or not to build on the site. • When the Venetian hotel-casino opened in Macau, China, in 2007, more than 114,000 visitors passed through its doors in its first 24 hours. • It was in July 1971 that Atlantic City casinos got temporary approval on a test basis to remain open 24 hours on weekends and holidays. One year later, the casinos got final approval to remain open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This article is provided by the Frank Scoblete Network. Melissa A.
