QUESTION: Regarding the Joker’s Wild game you mentioned where the big jackpot is on five of a kind instead of a natural royal, how can they afford to offer that? If the jackpot hand comes up once per 10,994 hands, as you say, and that’s about four times as often as royals in most video poker games, it just doesn’t seem like casinos would want to give away all those big hits. ... When I receive notes about players harassing other players, they’re almost always about blackjack. A player makes a strategy mistake, other players lose, and someone decides the way to handle it is to shout down the offender. QUESTION: I’ve heard that in video poker, middle-of-the-deck cards are the most valuable in making straights. It has something to do with the number of straights you could make, right? Can you put some numbers on that? ANSWER: I’d put a qualifier on your premise.
