Secondary decisions and splitting 10s

24 October 2019
QUESTION: My friend told me I was wasting my time at video poker because it can change cards on you. 17 October 2019
QUESTION: I read something you wrote about never betting four coins at a time on a video poker game with a five-coin max. That made sense. Baccarat problems

13 October 2019
Baccarat is one of the easiest casino games. It’s a pure guessing game as to whether the banker or player hand will come closer to 9 or whether they will tie. Her basic question was what you should do when there is a $1 minimum per bet on the commission on winning banker bets. ... (read more)

Video poker and the RNG

QUESTION: I like Hundred Play Poker, but I like playing for cheap. Where I usually play, they have a machine where you can choose 1 cent, 5 cents or 25 cents, and I always choose 1 cent. At five coins per hand and 100 hands, that’s $5, just like a one-hand dollar machine, and you get to see all those hands. ... (read more)

Winning the most hands and winning the most money at video poker are goals that sometimes conflict. When they do, they expert play is to use the strategy that wins the most money. Why counting cards works

3 October 2019
QUESTION: Explain to me like I’m five why counting cards works for blackjack players. My college buddy said it’s mostly about knowing when blackjacks are most likely to happen. If they’re more likely for players, aren’t they also more likely for dealers? I don’t understand how this helps. ANSWER: I looked back, and it’s been a while since I tacked this question, so here goes. ... (read more)

Back to Back Jackpots

29 September 2019
Over the years, I’ve relayed a number of reports readers have sent me about back-to-back jackpots. They’re not common experiences; they’re rare and precious, but they happen. A few more close encounters of the winning kind have accumulated in my email box. Let’s let two of the winners tell their stories. ... (read more)

Wild card bonuses

26 September 2019
QUESTION: I was playing Deuces Wild, and I was dealt a wild royal flush, but three of the cards were deuces. I kept the wild royal for 125 coins. Later I wondered if keeping the three deuces and going for the fourth deuce would have been reasonable. There were several other ways to repeat the wild royal, ... (read more)

Multi-roll fire bet

22 September 2019
Most of the best bets at craps involve multiple rolls. Those with house edges under 2% are pass or come (1.41%), don’t pass or don’t come (1.36%), and place bets on 6 and 8 (1.52%). And you can get the edge under 1% with odds wagers on pass, come, don’t pass and don’t come.
