Top Slot Reviews #5

20 January 2003

We continue our Top 200 Slot reviews and descriptions with a salute to the Aussie slot maker--Aristocrat.

Not only can we appreciate their presentation of colorful characters and graphics, but we also learn more about the land of OZ through the exploration of these versions.

1) Green Lizard. Aristocrat: There's a green lizard that flits into the top billing as the wild card, substituting for all symbols except those Aussie Galah birds. When one or more of these pink-breasted birds are caught basking anywhere on the screen, they pay from 2 to 5,000 additional credits.

Catching 3 or more Galahs pays off anywhere, but when they perch on or near the center reels, you are in for real rewards that can multiply by 2 or as high as 10.

Roosting way up high is a 250,000 coin award on the 20 line version of this 'high-flying' slot.

2) Fortune Fever. Aristocrat: It's time to boogie with this cast of characters from the era that brought us platform shoes and leisure suits. Leader of the Pack, Freddy Fever is joined by icons and symbols of those times including Mirrored Disco Balls, Lava Lamps and DJ Turntables.

Whenever the 'Red Carpet Door' and the 'Disco Ball' symbols land at the same time, Freddy appears and dances across the screen to disco music and the credits 'move on up'. The scattered symbols are 'DJ Turntables' that award credits when 3, 4 or 5 of them appear.

This slot proves that yeah, man--Disco Still Rules!

3) Enchanted Forest. Aristocrat: Players encounter mystical creatures, dragons and elves in this colorful game. Whimsical 'Tree Eyes' appearing anywhere on reels 2, 3 and 4 animate and blink for bonus pays. These symbols substitute for all symbols in all positions on that reel and pay for every winning combination.

When 3 or more fabled 'Magic Mushroom' symbols appear in any position, it's considered a scatter pay and additional credits are awarded. The 9-line configuration has a top payout of 40,000 coins and the 20-line game's top jackpot is 100,000 coins. Players can enter this magical domain for pennies on some versions of this 'enchanting' slot.

4) Emerald Dragon. Aristocrat: This video game is rich with Chinese myths and symbols where dragons represent special scatter pays that award additional credits when 3, 4 or 5 appear. A special 'Emerald Dragon' feature animates into a second screen bonus with a grid of emeralds. Touch an emerald to uncover a hidden amount. Get the same amount twice and that's your win.

Discover the 'Win x 2' or 'Win x 3' symbols and the next emerald touched is multiplied by 2 or 3. If both 'Win x' symbols are revealed, the next emerald amount is a multiple of 6 win.

Also available in penny denominations, this slot is worth 'dragon' yourself over for the 'green'.

This concludes our Aristocrat reviews for now, but there are more versions to come in future articles. In the meantime, you can take these charming characters for a 'spin to win'.

Gayle Mitchell

Gayle Mitchell, one of the first women to break through the “felt ceiling” of the previously male-dominated world of casino gambling gurus, is now regarded as one of North America’s leading experts on casino gambling.

Gayle’s commitment to educating the gambling public began almost 20 years ago, when she walked into a Las Vegas casino and experienced for the first time the thrill that comes with winning even a small bet. She made up her mind then and there to learn every game in the casino, and a short time later resolved to make a career out of sharing her insights with other gamblers. She had always considered herself to be a good teacher – she believes in keeping things simple – and decided that she would commit herself to showing newbies how to become knowledgeable, intelligent gamblers.

Gayle started her own publishing company, and her first book came out in 1997. Today she is the author of seven books, seven EBooks, and a set of five Tips booklets, and has presented many seminars on casino gambling. Currently she teaches Learn to Win Programs with other leading experts at GamblingTeachers.com. The site is a player-friendly Free Gambling Learning Center offering 300+ online lessons for popular casino games plus Gambling Teachers Blog. Gayle also operates www.gamerisms.com, which is a games glossary site for sport, casino, skill and video game players.

“It’s a fact that less than 2 percent of casino players know the profitable, correct strategies and/or rules for most casino games,” Gayle says. “Our group of career teachers and writers are working to improve that statistic.”
