Casino City’s Friday Five: Massive jackpots and expansions edition

25 October 2024

Any casino-goer has the long-shot hope of hitting a jackpot when gambling. While it is not very likely, it is still in the back of their mind. For a few lucky players this last week, that dream became a shocking reality. In addition, we also have a transformation for Caesars New Orleans, an expansion taking place at Delaware Park, and MGM and Marriott bringing a new brand to the Las Vegas Strip.

Let’s start with some six-figure wins:

5. $206,000 jackpot at IP Casino Resort Spa
A man from Texas struck gold playing Carnival Three-Card Poker at IP Casino Resort Spa in Mississippi.

After betting $1, Jerry hit the progressive jackpot with a royal flush of hearts, taking a $206,979 payout back home.

4. Paris Las Vegas pays out massive poker win
One lucky visitor scored a big win at Paris Las Vegas on Saturday, 19 October, hitting a jackpot of $312,996.

Michel from Vancouver, Washington, was playing Pai Gow Poker at the Las Vegas Strip property when he hit a seven-card straight flush on the Mega Progressive Jackpot. The player plans to play more golf with his winnings as well as share them with his wife.

3. MGM Resorts and Marriott to bring W Las Vegas to the Strip
MGM Resorts International and Marriott International announced plans this week to convert an iconic property, The Delano, on the Las Vegas Strip to the W Hotels brand within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.

Anticipated to complete its conversion later this year, W Las Vegas marks the latest step in the companies' long-term strategic licensing agreement announced in July 2023.

Located on the Mandalay Bay Campus, the property is slated to officially join the W Hotels portfolio later this year, with additional plans for the property to be announced in the future.

This collaboration between two trusted hospitality brands means more than 200 million Marriott Bonvoy members can enjoy unique benefits and redeem points at MGM Resorts' destinations while MGM Rewards members can status match and receive member benefits at Marriott's global portfolio of approximately 9,000 properties.

2. Caesars Entertainment completes transformation of Caesars New Orleans
Caesars Entertainment celebrated the completion of its $435 million transformation of Harrah's to Caesars New Orleans Hotel & Casino on Tuesday, 22 October.

The ceremony kicked off with an iconic Mardi Gras float featuring Caesar and his court and a firework show to officially welcome Caesars to New Orleans.

The resort boasts nearly 800 hotel rooms between its two hotel towers – the new Caesars Tower and the original hotel tower on Poydras Street. The destination provides an extensive gaming experience with more than 150,000 square feet of upgraded gaming and dining space featuring more than 1,300 slot machines, 120 table games, a 20-table World Series of Poker Room, three outdoor gaming courtyards and a 5,700-square-foot Caesars Sportsbook.

1. Delaware Park Casino breaks ground on $5 million expansion
Last week, Delaware Park Casino & Racing broke ground on a $5 million expansion, announcing plans for a nearly 10,000-square-foot outdoor slot patio. The new space will provide guests with more than 250 of the latest and most popular slot machines, in an open-air environment.

Located adjacent to the casino’s racetrack, the patio will be heated in the winter and is expected to be completed by spring 2025.

This expansion comes right on the heels of Delaware Park’s $10 million renovation of its main casino floor, which features new slot titles, high-limit table games, enhanced dining options and a modern design.

In addition, beginning 8 November, table games will join the first-floor slots as a round-the-clock offering, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
