Casino City’s Friday Five: Jackpots, expansions and WSOP Main Event edition

18 July 2025

The World Series of Poker wrapped up its Main Event this week, with one dominant player taking home $10 million and a $500,000 bracelet. Elsewhere, a new millionaire was crowned in downtown Las Vegas, several resorts unveiled renovation and expansion plans, and the Dutch Gaming Authority issued enforcement actions against multiple companies.

Let’s begin with a massive win:

5. $1.1 million slot win at Palms Casino Resort
A Club Serrano member visiting Palms Casino Resort for the first time struck it big this week, hitting a $1,142,108 jackpot while playing the Wheel of Fortune 4D Collector’s Edition slot machine.

The winner made a $4 bet before landing the life-changing win. He and his wife, who are in Las Vegas from Washington to attend a food truck convention, are celebrating not just their jackpot—but a business expansion. The couple owns a booming burger food truck, and thanks to their win, they’re planning to purchase a second truck to grow their business.

4. Dutch Gaming Authority fines three companies
The Netherlands Gambling Authority imposed a penalty payment order on three parties for advertising illegal gambling, including on the website Casinoscout.nl.

If SBM Holding Group, Sun Block Media Labs 2.0 Ltd., and JEF Holdings Ltd. continue advertising illegal casinos, the Ksa will impose a penalty payment of €75,000 per week on all parties, with a maximum of €225,000.

For a while, Casinoscout.nl promoted only legal gambling, but in early 2025, it was acquired by a new owner. From that point on, illegal gambling was promoted via the website. Not only is offering illegal gambling prohibited in the Netherlands, but advertising for it is also prohibited.

3. Comanche Nation Entertainment announces expansions at two resorts
Comanche Nation Entertainment is planning major expansions at both Comanche Red River Hotel Casino and Comanche Nation Casino in Oklahoma.

Construction will begin first at Comanche Red River Hotel Casino with a new event center that expands the gaming floor, adds non-gaming amenities and creates new space to host concerts, conferences and community events. The Comanche Red River Hotel Casino expansion includes approximately 150 additional slot machines, 15 table games, new bar and food service areas and non-gaming attractions including an arcade and virtual golf suites.

While Comanche Red River Hotel Casino is the first phase, the broader development plan includes future expansions to Comanche Nation Casino and other long-range enhancements across both sites.

2. Valley Forge Casino Resort unveils Stardust Tower renovations
Valley Forge Casino Resort in Pennsylvania announced the completion of renovations to the Stardust Tower.

The upgrades include 253 redesigned standard guest rooms and a completely refreshed lobby. The Stardust Tower renovation is the latest milestone of Valley Forge’s multi-phase transformation that will include upgrades to the resort’s dining and entertainment offerings, including a complete redesign of the property’s casino floor.

1. Michael Mizrachi wins WSOP Main Event and earns Poker Hall of Fame induction
In a summer for the ages, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi dominated the World Series of Poker Main Event final table, claiming the $10 million first-place prize from the largest total prize pool in history, and was immediately inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.

The nomination follows Mizrachi’s historic achievements, which include him winning his fourth Poker Players Championship and the WSOP Main Event in the same summer.

Down to just three big blinds on Day 8 of Main Event play, Mizrachi faced overwhelming odds to claim this historic win. But from that low point, he surged with newfound momentum, delivering what could be considered one of the most impressive bracelet-clinching performances in poker history.
