Whew! Glad That's Over!

5 April 2003

I never really gave much thought to how much time I had spent making additions to the computer by downloading files and programs from the internet, until I was faced with the task of "re-loading" that went with having a brand new hard drive with a virgin version of Windows handed me. It seems like days and days and days, and alas, I can finally give it the green light as things are now back in place, and I can operate like a pro again. As I said, "whew!" Those looking for their weekly newsletter about Reno and Tahoe gambling will find it once again in their mail. If you don’t get your copy, you may need to re-subscribe in the simple "subscribe box" on the links page. Just be sure that you confirm your subscription, or the mailing service will not send it!

April roared in with winds and snow in the Reno area, I woke up in Verdi to find four inches had piled on the car. It figures, just a couple of days before it was nearly 74 degrees in Reno, the kind of weather conducive to wearing sandals and tee shirts. It is needed, every snow flake is needed now, last week the Tahoe headlines were reading "Snowpack 54% of Normal," so yes, water and snow are crucial if we are to have healthy water supplies for summer. I’m hoping the psychics were right when they predicted record precipitation in April. I love the spring weather, but winter left us a little dry behind our ears.

Weather or not, spring brings all kinds of new activities to the Reno area. New tournaments, festivities, fun for all... it won’t be long, and the fun will spill into the street, and I for one, can hardly wait. Friday nights at John Ascuaga’s Nugget you can enter into a Blackjack Tournament, starting at 6:30 p.m. for a $20 buy-in and a guaranteed first prize of $500. Over at the Atlantis Casino Resort they are celebrating the life of the king of rock & roll with a special slot tournament in his honor...held on Sunday and Monday, April 13th and 14th... you can get "All Shook Up" as you play for $35,000 in cash prizes... sightings of "The King" will be frequent during this exciting tournament... and if you lace up your "Blue Suede Shoes" and don those bell bottoms, you could win cash prizes in the Elvis impersonator contest. Entry is $249 with a room, and $199 without a room... you can call the tournament hotline today at 1-888-551-7007.

The war, the economy, and all the related etc.’s are adding up to more reasons to visit Reno. Gas prices are hovering around $1.93 a gallon in Reno, cheapest in South Lake Tahoe is reportedly $2.25 a gallon... Reno is a good buy these specials abound, you can find internet specials on rooms, food specials are everywhere, and the gaming is absolutely great. I’ve posted a couple of new winner’s photos for Fitzgeralds Reno on the Reno Gaming Guide and you can see the winning keno tickets behind the one... I swear, the best place to play Keno while downtown... Lots of winners, look on both sides of the escalator going up to the Keno Lounge... you’ll see what I mean! Ah heck... just make plans to visit Reno, it’s a happy place to visit.
