Kiss the Blarney Stone

8 March 2003

Saint Patrick’s Day is coming up fast, and Reno is the place to be if you want to feel some Irish Good Luck. Lots of ways to participate in a Reno Saint Patty’s Day and all of them good. There will be an explosion of food and gaming specials in Reno for this special lucky day, so stay tuned, I’ll have more on the Reno Gaming Guide, in a special section... but here’s a couple of things you might want to stick into the game plan if you are visiting during this magical and fun time.

Start off at Fitzgeralds Reno.... where you can toss a coin in Fitzgerald's Lucky Wishing Well constructed of lucky stones from Blarney Castle, touch a lucky horseshoe from Triple Crown Winner Secretariat....rub Ho-Tei's belly, the Chinese god of good luck, toss a coin in the mystical waters of the Lucky Waterfall and rub the magical Genie's lamp for good luck in the Lucky Forest... then set off on your adventure filled with good luck. You’ll find all your favorite games at Fitzgeralds... find a Leprechaun, and be sure to take part in all the promotions always going on at Fitzgeralds... Get your card, collect some O’Lucky Bucks, earn free rooms and more... and whatever you do, play a little Keno... the wins are good! James and Marcia from Bend, Oregon came to Fitzgeralds on a Sunday afternoon to enjoy a night away. While playing the Wheel of Fortune at Fitzgeralds Casino/Hotel, James hit the Million Dollar Progressive Jackpot. When the three Wheel of Fortune symbols hit, he was not sure what he had won--"he was looking for the decimal point." The gentleman next to him said, "Do you know what you won?" James was still looking and the gentleman said, "You won one million." Must be that Irish Luck!

Boomtown Hotel and Casino is pouring out the luck of the Irish with St. Patrick's dining and drink specials. The Mexican-themed Sundance Cantina will turn Irish with a corned beef and cabbage special served Monday, March 17 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The special will be joined by roasted potatoes, soup and salad bar for just $8.49. A gourmet corned beef and cabbage specialty will also be prepared in the Silver Screen Buffet Monday, March 17. Guests can enjoy the traditional dish as part of the Silver Screen's all-you-can-eat brunch or dinner buffet. Boomtown bars will pour out a taste of Ireland with two St. Patrick's drink specials. Leroux green creme de menthe, Jameson Irish whiskey and cream come together in the smooth Irish Eyes special. The Bubbly Irish Nut specialty pours a smooth blend of Bailey's Irish Cream, Amaretto and soda water into a tall 9 ounce glass. The drinks will be served Friday, March 14 through Friday, March 21 for just $3.

NEW WINNER’S PHOTOS FROM THE ELDORADO! So that makes three casinos now allowing me to post their winner’s pictures.... well received by web visitors, so let’s hope that the rest of the casinos will soon be participating in this... then we can really have a nice photo gallery showing how much people do win during their Reno visits!

Gold Ranch gets best Mardi Gras Party vote from me... I had a coupon, and they gave me a fancy and pretty Mardi Gras mask, followed by tons of beads, and the best hors d’oeuvres fit for a Mardi Gras King or Queen. Jay, the Sierra Café manager outdid himself with New "Awlins" style kabobs, as well as popcorn shrimp, and spicy Cajun potatoes, and I kept going back for the shish-kabobs.. Outstanding job... and there were cash drawings that ran from 6 p.m., starting with $50 wins, and every half hour they drew for a little higher amount, until the last drawing at 8 p.m., when one lucky person won $500.... now how on earth can you beat that? And they kept giving you entries, and more entries, and even more entries... so you had a really good chance of winning... mark that in your books... Gold Ranch takes the award for the number of ways you can win cash... they still have "Winning Wednesdays," where they draw names for $50 every half hour from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and they have the second chance Lotto drawing, where another $1500 goes out the door the last Thursday of the month, plus all kinds of special drawings that pop up for various occasions, and it is a worthwhile visit!

I’ve noticed all kinds of new subscribers on the weekly newsletter coming in from Canada, and wanted to extend a warm welcome to all our Canadian friends. I also am extending that warm welcome to the rest of the subscribers, who appear to now cover all 50 of the states... and encourage one and all to stick a pin into the guest map... go ahead, "Make my day!" And I also wanted to remind everyone to rate their slots, favorite or otherwise... or leave a trip report or? on the Trips and Tips message board... being that this site is by a gambler, and for gamblers, I encourage lots of participation. This isn’t a site by a large "corpse" (corporation)... it is one of those "from me to you and for you" things... and you will find that is one thing I will always stress. The more communications we have, the better off we can be... who was it that once told me, "As a gambler you will never be heard, because ‘they’ won’t listen to you" did me a huge favor. The more I hear words like "won’t" the more determined I become to turn that into "Oh yes they will..." And we are being heard, and they are paying attention, a little more with each passing day. Here’s to our future!

So come to Reno, no "slappers" on the street passing out cards for the girls like Las Vegas, nothing offensive to the family visiting, a good clean town with wholesome fun for all, and still offering all the things you have come to associate with Nevada gambling. Come see what it is all about, and what it was all about.
