MGM Directors Bring Experience to Detroit

DETROIT, Michigan – As reported by the Detroit News: "Norman Dillard, Dee Dee Odom and Jovita Thomas-Williams have a lot in common.

"They grew up in Detroit and, like many others, left the city to pursue good-paying careers in more prosperous areas. Now, all three have returned to Detroit as high-ranking managers at MGM Grand Detroit Casino and hope to be a part of the revitalization of their hometown.

"…All three say they were looking for a job opportunity in Detroit. When the original casino development agreements were signed with the city of Detroit in 1998, it required that each casino have at least 51 percent of its work force comprised of city residents. MGM Grand, Greektown and MotorCity casinos employ about 7,900 workers, including 4,000 in Detroit.

"At MGM, Dillard is responsible for four public restaurants, an employee dining room and 14 bars at the gambling house that serves about 3,200 meals a day. Odom is the casino's financial controller, while Thomas-Williams is vice president of human resources for MGM.

"…For many casino employees, the industry means well-paying job opportunities that include benefits such as health care, the three MGM managers say.

"Dillard, the casino's food and beverage vice president, said family benefits are an important ingredient for any resident of Detroit, where many of the city's residents have no health care insurance…"
