Meetings changed Trump dealers' minds

ATLANTIC CITY, New York -- As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "It was the employee meetings that did it, they said.

"Trump Marina Hotel Casino dealers voted down union representation by eight votes last Friday, just six weeks after the United Auto Workers said it garnered pledge cards from at least 60 percent of them and filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board.

"The 183-175 vote, which comes on the heels of wide-margin victories among dealers at Caesars Atlantic City and Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, has 'surprised,' even 'dumbfounded' some at Trump Marina who were expecting the same, dealers there said.

"Dealers, who are not authorized to speak with The Press on the record, attributed the transformation of support to the multitude of meetings held during a month-long period, designed to inform employees about how unions work. By the time of the election, management was able to convince many that it could resolve their issues without a third party, dealers said.

"The casino advised employees to wait one year, during which time dealers could observe contract negotiations at Caesars, and Trump Marina would try to tackle their concerns, which largely center on health benefits and raises. After that, the company said, employees could again seek union representation if they wished..."
